This sound set provides a library of planes and trains passing by and by (as well as a random helicopter), filmed over two nights in my garden at London Gatwick Airport’s fairway and nearby railway below the line. Designed for professionals seeking true high-fidelity audio, this series delivers a rich sound experience.
Aircraft records:
Commercial Jet Traffic: Recorded at night under the flight path of Gatwick Airport to minimize external noise, these recordings capture the unique sounds of a variety of commercial jets operating at approximately 5,000 feet. Covering a range of aircraft types, the series provides a detailed perspective on the acoustic signature of modern aviation.
Private and Light Aircraft: Complementing the commercial jet record, this mini-series also includes a variety of small private jets and propeller-driven aircraft operating at approximately 2,500 feet. These recordings provide valuable insights into the sonic characteristics of light aircraft, further adding to the diversity of the collection.
Altitude Data: Each aircraft record is accompanied by approximate altitude data and verified with reliable flight tracking applications. This metadata adds another layer of information for sound designers and editors, allowing them to select recordings that accurately reflect specific aircraft types and flight operations.
Train recording:
Commuter Train Diversity: These recordings were taken approximately 20 feet away from the rail lines, showcasing the diverse soundscape of commuter rail traffic. The collection includes a range of train types, each with a unique sound signature defined by different speeds, weights and configurations. This variety ensures that sound professionals have access to a comprehensive range of authentic train sounds. For these recordings, I used an Audio-Technica BP4025 microphone, known for its ability to capture realistic and immersive soundscapes that transport the listener into the heart of the railway environment. Microphone placement was carefully chosen to optimize sonic clarity and detail, ensuring each recording faithfully represented the dynamic energy of a passing train.
Excellent technology:
PROFESSIONAL-GRADE EQUIPMENT: All recordings are recorded using state-of-the-art equipment, including a Zoom H2n (for night recordings) and an F3 recorder,
This carefully crafted collection provides a valuable resource for sound designers, filmmakers, game developers, and any creative professional seeking authentic, high-quality airplane and train audio. Its diverse recording range, coupled with precise metadata and technical precision, make it an indispensable tool to enrich any audio project.
