For the fifth consecutive year, Bad Bunny won Top Latin Artist at the Billboard Music Awards, which aired its 2024 edition on Thursday night (December 12).
The Puerto Rican superstar also took home honors for Best Latin Male Artist and Best Latin Album, the latter for No one knows what will happen tomorrowThe album debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart and led the Latin Album Chart for 10 consecutive weeks since its debut in October 2023.
Following closely behind was Fuerza Regida, who won two awards, winning not only the Top Latin Duo/Group award but also the General Top Duo/Group category, beating out Blink-182, Coldplay, Linkin Park and International stars such as K-pop star Stray Kids. The San Bernardino, Calif., band has three albums in the Top 10 of Top Latin Albums during this year’s BBMAs’ qualifying period (October 28, 2023-October 19, 2024), including Pallas Baby and Bellicada Hotelpeaking at No. 1 and leading for three weeks; Injured but no regrets (EP)reaching 5th place; and But don’t fall in love, Reached second place.
“First of all, we want to thank all the fans, thank you very much, we really appreciate you,” band leader Joop said when accepting two awards at the ceremony. “You know, we’re making history together. We’re the best band in the world right now,” he added, also thanking their label, Street Mob Records.
Karol G wins Best Latin Female Artist for the third year in a row. The Colombian superstar scored a chart victory this year with merengue song “Si Antes Te Hubiera Conocido,” making her the first person since 2014 to simultaneously dominate the Hot Latin Songs, Latin Songs, and Tropical Songs charts artist and has held the lead for 22 consecutive weeks.
Meanwhile, Luis Miguel won the Top Latin Touring Artist award for his historic 2023-2024 World Tour. The tour concluded on December 17 in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and was announced as the highest-grossing Latin tour of all time in September, with revenue exceeding $300 million from the first 146 concerts.
Newcomer FloyyMenor wins his first BBMA for hit song “Gata Only” featuring Cris MJ, the first song by a Chilean artist in 25 years to reach No. 1 on the Hot Latin Songs chart maintained its top spot.
“I want to thank my family, my wife, my staff and my brother Cris MJ, who was not able to attend but I send him a big cheer and a hug,” Flo said Imeno said after accepting the trophy. “I am proud to be Chilean and to represent my country. We will continue to fly the Chilean flag high. Fans can expect an album from him in 2025,” he added.
