New York City police have arrested a man in connection with the beating death of an avant-garde rock musician in the Bronx.
Sharief Bodden, 29, was charged on Friday with the death of 64-year-old Bronx resident Peter Forrest, who went by the stage name P. Fluid. Was the lead singer of 24/7 Spyz.
The Bronx band was part of a wave of black-led rock bands that emerged in the 1980s, including Living Color and Fishbone, and incorporated elements of heavy metal, funk, R&B, punk and other genres.
The band’s signature songs include a cover of Kool & the Gang’s “Jungle Boogie.” Forrest reportedly quit the band during the 1990 Jane’s Addiction tour. rolling stones.
The Black Rock Coalition, a New York-based artist group that features Living Color’s Vernon Reid and other black musicians, considers Forrest “an important chapter in a major band” in the history of the group.

Forrest was found unconscious and beaten inside the private ambulance bus he was driving on Monday, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene and the medical examiner’s office determined he suffered blunt force injuries to his head and torso.
Surveillance video obtained by News 12 Bronx shows a man getting out of his vehicle around 9 a.m. and getting into another vehicle with a woman. About an hour later, another crew member from the ambulance company arrived and discovered Forrest’s body inside the van.
Borden faces charges of murder, manslaughter, unlawful possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of a weapon.
His attorney is not listed in the state’s online court database. The Bronx District Attorney’s Office did not respond to an email seeking comment on Saturday (Jan. 18).
