This is a unique collection of bikes that captures four bikes with authentic exterior riding characteristics that are clean, quiet, and perform well. Includes multiple perspectives, speeds, and actions. From fast passes on asphalt to slow on-board recording, smooth or skidding stops. This package contains everything you need to create a convincing sound design for urban cycling.
content:
Four bikes with distinct characteristics:
1. Good bike: A smooth sounding retro bike with no rattles or squeaks and excellent tire noise.
2. The bike is bad: Older bikes can have severe rattling and cranking noises that can easily cause the chain to fly off.
3. The ugly bicycle: This bike can get you from point A to point B…but it won’t win awards for its looks.
4. Racing bikes: A used race car, but still very smooth.
Five perspectives:
1. Airborne front: Capture the whirring tires and road sounds.
2. Onboard pedal: The overall mix of pedaling sound, crank crunch, chain rattle, tire and road sound is good.
3. Onboard rear: Close-up sounds of the rear axle, including chain, sprocket and gear switching.
4. Tracking shooting: Mono recording of passing, keeping bikes in focus as they pass by.
5. Static XY shooting: Passing stereo recording that emphasizes speed.
Five perspectives:
Viewing angle and microphone placement overview
*Onboard recording duration is 2-3 minutes, depending on speed. Higher speed > shorter duration. All 3 onboard microphones are edited in sync with each other for easy layering. All passing, arriving and departing flights move from left to right.
Speed and action:
There are three speeds for every bike and every surface (see below). Starting from slow, medium to fast vacation. From a slow stop with a gently squeaking handbrake to a severe, choppy skid.
City Bike – Perspective Demonstration
Five surfaces:
We documented all the bikes on the asphalt from every angle (onboard and on the side of the road). Additionally, our quietest bike (Good Bike) was used to record the other 4 surfaces from the on-board perspective.
Five surfaces:
1. Asphalt: Beautiful and clean, with smooth singing.
2. Big bricks: Beautifully textured surface that makes the tires purr like a cat.
3. Gravel: You might hear a fresh crackling sound in a city park.
4. Perseverance: Classic bike lane surface sounds layered perfectly with other surfaces.
5. Icy roads: Frozen asphalt with a shiny ice crystal texture that breaks under the wheels.
**These surfaces were also recorded from a roadside perspective (passing by: static and tracked)
City Bike – Extra Surface Preview
Bonus files:
There are some sweeteners and add-ons that can provide an extra layer of grit to your bike:
1. External recordings of various actions in multiple shots, from rattles, bounces, shakes, to rolls. Enough to make your bike sound a little different.
2. We also recorded an additional 21 single passes of a variety of bicycles, ranging from violent rattles to smooth rides on small brick streets and alleys. Enough to expand your options to create outstanding sound designs.
Metadata and tags:
Because we know how important metadata is to your sound library, we created a consistent and intuitive description method that adheres to a common category system. This makes it easy to find the sounds you need, whether you’re working in a library such as Soundminer/Basehead/PT Workspace, or in an Exporer/Finder window. We’ve created a video to help you browse the library and find your best bike sounds faster and easier.
All categories
A quick way to filter out unwanted sounds: for example the sound of a bicycle on the car and vice versa.
User category
The fastest way to find the types of moves you need on all bikes. Need to go through, just click.
open layer
After selecting your bike, you can open OpenTier and Audition and select the perspective you want to use.
Scenes and performers
This field contains bike types for quick navigation to your favorite bike.
iXMLTrackLayout
This is a neat little identifier you can find on the waveform display that allows you to see at a glance where you are listening.
microphone perspective
We have another way to find perspective, but it’s more limited to distance from the subject of the record.
So passing is MED – EXT and processing is CU – EXT. External? Of course: we document everything out there!
User comments
We use this field to create UserData and provide you with a minimal set of information about the recording in the file name.
Additionally, we’ve added tags to make specific sound events easy to discover in Soundminer and other applications.
If you have any questions about this, please contact us at info@frickandtraa.com!
Single bike package:
We also sell single packages of all the bikes in the library.
