Before I start this review, let me first point out that I still don’t like how they decided to write Grace’s character, however, I won’t let that distract me from the rest of the season (or maybe I will, let Let’s see).
last night’s episode 9-1-1: Lone Star It starts out sweet but ends in disaster. Tommy, Trevor and the girls were doing the TikTok dance and the family atmosphere put the biggest smile on my face. Even though the adults screwed up, it makes me feel good inside to know how this unit got started in the first place; they’ve come a long way. Embarrassed by their lack of coordination, the girls leave while Tommy and Trevor try to learn the moves again. It really felt like a family moment. Because of this, Tommy decided to propose to Trevor at this time (I cringe, but that’s just the old school in me) He said yes. What? I loved that about them until Trevor said there was a condition.

Before we knew what the situation was, we knew it couldn’t possibly be that good the way Tommy was acting. Overindulged in the donuts Carlos brought (Sorry, I’m still struggling with the fact that he’s a ranger and not a detective, but I’ll save that for another day), someone put a harmonica in their mouth while on the phone, and yes, TK and Nancy could tell. When they confront her, she tells them how she proposed to Trevor and he said yes, but only if she was vetted by Trevor’s ex-wife, Cassandra. I get it – this would make me eat donuts too, Tommy. We also find out that this condition was part of their divorce settlement; Trevor could not move to Texas with Melody until she reviewed what would appear in her daughter’s life when he remarried women in life. Now, to me, this gives someone too much power to determine your future happiness. However, it makes sense for them to meet in order to know who will be next to their daughter.

Wyatt stopped at the station to talk to Owen about getting Judd back to work. Grace is on the other side of the world (This makes no sense and is out of character – but now let’s pin it down), Judd was struggling and even decided to try a career in trucking. Wyatt tried his best, but it didn’t work. Owen takes Lieutenant Judd’s outstanding performance into consideration, but tells Wyatt that others, such as Paul and Marion, are perfect for the position and it would be unfair to give the position back to Judd.
Judd was distraught; it looked like this trucking job was just as good as his, but only if he could haul farther. He figured he’d be able to stick to a short flight so he could get home with Charlie, whereas a long flight would make that a challenge. Returning to 126 is no longer an option, and he can’t contact Grace to know her thoughts (This is disgusting, but I digress.); he may need to consider other plans to get the job done.

When it comes to the lieutenant role, Owen finds it difficult to choose between Marian and Paul, so he enlists the help of Mateo. Mateo helped him figure out how to deal with this – he called Marian and Paul in the office and told them that their AFD test scores would be the deciding factor, but interestingly when he looked at their scores the results were Exactly the same – come back and go to the drawing board.
The train derailment finally happened—and here we go.
This was a mixed freight train and there was no telling what they were dealing with until the manifest arrived. Marjan and Paul really took control of this scene (Can there be two lieutenants?). The manifest was safe; the train was carrying some mundane items – however, cars carrying pesticides, chlorine and toxic waste would certainly be a problem. The biggest concern, though, was the car’s 28,000 gallons of propane. The team needs to keep the car cool or else…

Mateo performs an impressive rescue of a civilian trapped in a car. Just before his car was hit by a train, he promised his daughter that he would never miss her recital again and that I would be very sad if he didn’t make it. Thanks to Mateo, he doesn’t have to break that promise.
Everything seemed to be going well until the firefighters suddenly lost their water. Supply lines were destroyed and all water lines were disabled; there was nothing much that could be done now. It’s no longer about controlling the train car – it’s time to escape. If there was one time that got me interested in this show, it was the last few minutes of the episode. I didn’t even realize when I started holding my breath, but man is that intense. Marian shouted, instructing everyone to retreat (This feels like a callback to the series premiere) As she ran, she got too close to the burning train car and boom! Big bang, and then the credits roll.
It’s been a lot, and it’s not over yet. What did you think of last night’s episode? 9-1-1: Lone Star? Share your thoughts below or connect with me on X/Twitter @chenfordhugs.
