Spoilers ahead!
in the last episode of the year 9-1-1Brad (Callum Blue) tries to be the hero in a pipeline explosion, which rightfully pisses off Bobby (Peter Krause). Brad also spent more time with 118, having a thoughtful conversation with Eddie (Ryan Guzman), who just learned something about his son Christopher (Gavin McHugh) Something surprising and painful. Meanwhile, Athena (Angela Bassett) investigates the brutal beating of a shopping cart cop (Sam Roach), a YouTuber whose content is about people not returning their shopping carts at the grocery store. People in the right place.

If you’re thinking this doesn’t sound like an explosive, thrilling fall finale, you’re right! There are 18 episodes aired in 2024, Season 7 has 10, and Season 8 Part 1 has 8, most of them filled with crazy twists, revelations, beginnings, endings, a wedding, some near-death experiences, And of course there are the (un)common emergencies that we all know, and the team behind the show decided that this year should end on a peaceful, fun note. But if you watched the promo for the next episode, which is scheduled to air on March 6, 2025, you might feel the same way: this is just the calm before the storm, 8B is probably going to be a wild ride.
But let’s focus on what we have now before moving back to the future. admirer Very focused on Brad who wants to be a hero. This episode starts with episode 118 watched Hotspotthe show is written by Brad. This scene is here to remind us how much Brad cares about his performance as a firefighter, but also to be this fun meta thing and a great family moment in 118 (I love it!)
When Brad tries to save a woman during a plumbing emergency without following any of the usual safety procedures, Bobby has some tough (and true) words for him. But the TV star got what he wanted during a phone call with a super fan Hotspot is trying to commit suicide – this time, Brad shows up and saves the day.

The storyline in this episode is more interesting than in 8.07, and 118 is more actively involved here. Brad is charming and Callum Blue does a great job bringing this passionate actor to life. But I still think it’s been a while since we’ve had a memorable emergency – not talking about the big multi-arc emergencies that happen in every season premiere/finale, or major and recurring characters going through near-death experiences, but It’s the usual summons that regular episodes are no longer as memorable and exciting as they once were. Every episode of previous seasons left me distressed, and this year has been underwhelming in that sense. So while I’m not bothered by the attention given to Brad and know they are pursuing something less painful, admirer Continuing the trend of weekly minor emergencies, this fall’s finale struck viewers as very routine.
That’s how I would describe the storyline of “Cart Cop” as well: silly, but gentle. I love a good mystery novel, but this story felt disconnected from the main content. There’s only one good thing about this: the scene between Athena and the YouTuber in the hospital, where Angela Bassett plays this gentler, kinder version of Athena (which always amazes me.) I’m crossing my fingers for next year’s The series can surprise the audience. Something about (Kenneth Choi), I’m okay with anything. When placed next to the others, this is where she shines most. In previous seasons, Athena made these cop storylines somehow related to her kids or her ex-husband so they didn’t feel so soulless — maybe something like that should happen again.

Finally, Eddie talks to Christopher and discovers that his new life seems wonderful. He’s now learning chess, and on top of that, he’s living with his grandparents in El Paso and doing new things. After a thoughtful conversation with Brad about not letting the distance between him and his son grow, Eddie decided he didn’t want to miss out on all the important moments Chris had. So now Eddie wants to move to Texas, and Buck (Oliver Stark) finds out in a very funny moment. After all, Buck is still dealing with a recent breakup, and his fear of abandonment comes full circle when he discovers Eddie. But Buck still offers him some help, and it’s a really nice moment where Eddie is relieved and happy to have Buck around, while Buck sits on Eddie’s couch grieving over the loss of another person in his life. Fear of important people. Buck and Eddie’s storylines are intertwined again, and it’s hard to know where one begins and the other ends; while I firmly believe they’re already meant for each other, this storyline may be what’s needed for them to kiss before the show ends settings.
While this episode was a regular episode and had some great moments, I have to say that I loved the final scene where Buck, Eddie, and Chimney performed in the show. HotspotBobby and Hen helped with the production backstage. What a great way to end this Hotshots arc, with 118 people together, laughing, and having fun. If you’ve seen the promo for the next episode, it features (possibly spoilers; we won’t know for sure until next March) Maddie (Jennifer Love Hewitt) going through what looks like a kidnapping, You’ll know that this calm may not last long. We’ll have to wait and see what the future holds for these characters – Eddie still has to fight for Christopher, Athena and Bobby have to build their new house, Maddie and Yannie are expecting another baby, and Maddie’s life may be will be threatened.
