The Saskatchewan Association of Broadcasters (SAB) is encouraging Saskatchewan students interested in broadcasting, journalism, communications and media to apply for its annual scholarship program.

    Supporting the next generation

The SAB offers two Saskatchewan Association of Broadcasters Scholarships each year, along with the Tyler Bieber Memorial Scholarship.

The awards provide financial assistance to students pursuing post-secondary education in broadcasting and related fields, helping support those preparing for careers in news, production, sales, programming, engineering and digital media.

SAB president Brian Kusch said the industry continues to offer opportunities as technology evolves.

“There’s lots of potential for growth, especially over the last few years as technology has changed,” Kusch said. “The industry has lots of opportunity, and it’s why we want to support it as broadcasters and support that with post-secondary education.”

More than being behind the microphone

While broadcasting is often associated with working behind a microphone, Kusch said the industry encompasses a wide range of careers and skill sets.

“People think broadcasting and that’s it. It’s behind the mic, but in reality, there’s so many different options,” he said.

Those options include journalism, media communications, audio production and other related fields associated with broadcasting.

Kusch said the scholarship program is intended to help students pursuing those different career paths access post-secondary education.

    Applications open until November

Students interested in applying are encouraged to review the eligibility requirements and submit their applications by Friday, November 20, 2026.

Complete scholarship information and the online application are available through the Saskatchewan Association of Broadcasters scholarship page.
