A new movie channel is streaming independent films from the Myrtle Beach International Film Festival

The Myrtle Beach Movie Channel is now live on YouTube. Films are available to stream for free, 24 hours a day.

Jerry Dalton, founder and co-director of the Myrtle Beach International Film Festival, said people kept asking what happened to the independent films after the festival ended. That demand led him to create a way for viewers to keep watching them at home.

“We had to create something that satisfies everyone; why not create our own movie channel,” Daltons said. “People come through; we have some of the best films from around the World come through, but they get lost in the shuffle afterwards. People want to see them again, and if they weren’t able to make it to the festival, they want to see those movies somewhere, so the best thing I could come up with was a free movie channel.”

Dalton said the channel will premiere a new movie every Friday at 8 p.m. starting in about two weeks, along with special events to celebrate each release.

Dalton said filmmakers will benefit financially once the channel is monetized.

“For the filmmakers, as soon as the channel is monetized, which should happen soon, they’re going to get a revenue share, so it’s good for everybody,” Dalton said.

Dalton said the channel will feature films from multiple countries.

“We got {films} from Sweden, France, Germany, a lot of the United States; of course that’s the bulk of them,” Dalton said. “If they are a foreign film, they’re subtitled in English. So, we got one that will be going up from Sweden.”

Dalton said he focuses on independent films because of how they are made.

“Independent film is scripted directly from the heart. I always wanted to change that name. Why? because it can have a 200-million-dollar budget and have all the stars,” Dalton said. “So, we’ve had a lot of stars at the Myrtle Beach International Film Festival; independent is a designation for made outside the major five studios.”

Dalton said he finds the films through submissions to the Myrtle Beach International Film Festival.

“The submission process starts first of June and goes to the end of December, so we get a load of films,” Dalton said.

Dalton said the film festival is also building a website for the channel.

“We’re building a website for it also, but right now it’s on a YouTube channel,” Dalton said. “You go, and you look at the description; we’ll have trailers, you watch it, and you decide you want to watch it, you just click the little button, and you start watching. Like I said, it’s free and will remain free as long as we run it.”

Dalton is also building a 20,000-square-foot movie studio. He said the first film from the studio is expected to be released in 2027.
