Mike Tyson reflects on his life, career and controversies in Netflix’s four-part docuseries ‘Tyson’

Mike Tyson reflects on his life, boxing career and past controversies in Tyson, a new four-part Netflix docuseries premiering October 13.

Netflix released the trailer for Tysonon Thursday, offering a preview of the former heavyweight boxing champion’s reflections on his life and career.

The series follows Tyson from his difficult childhood in Brooklyn, New York, through his rise to fame and his much-discussed 2024 fight against Jake Paul.

In the trailer, Tyson, 60, recalls being “addicted to chaos” during the height of his fame and the controversies surrounding his career.

His children also discuss their perspective on their father, suggesting that “inside, there’s a broken guy just trying to be a good father.”

Tyson said the documentary gave him an opportunity to examine his life without presenting himself solely through a positive or negative lens.

“Most people are too scared to look at their own lives objectively, wanting to paint themselves as the hero of their own story,” Tyson told Netflix’s Tudum.

“But if we are truly objective, we know we can never be the hero in our own story. We have to be able to face the man in the mirror — taking the good with the bad — to give a full account of our contributions in this life.”

The docuseries covers different periods of Tyson’s personal life and professional career, including his childhood, boxing success and later appearances in the public eye. It also features discussion of his 2024 bout with Paul at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

Tyson became a six-time world heavyweight champion during his boxing career. His fight against Paul took place in November 2024 and was part of the later period explored by the documentary.

Tysonis directed by Floyd Russ, whose credits includeUntoldand American Manhunt: The Boston Marathon Bombing.
