‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’
Columbia Pictures’ Spider-Man: Brand New Day has scaled the heights and broken a decade-long record held by Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens to become the highest-grossing film of all time at the North American box office on $936.8m and counting.
Destin Daniel Cretton’s summer smash achieved the feat on Tuesday after 47 days in release and as of Wednesday morning had earned nearly $200,000 more than Lucasfilms’ tentpole, which opened in December 2015 and established the prior record by May 2016.
Brand New Day starring Tom Holland as the web-slinger broke more than a dozen records during its spectacular run and set new box office marks for the highest domestic opening <a href="https://cinemamix360.com/2026/09/18/whats-new-to-streaming-this-week-sept-18-2026/” title=”What's new to streaming this week? (Sept. 18, 2026)”>weekend ($360m), Thursday previews ($72m including Wednesday early access), opening day (Friday, $169.8m), first Monday ($47.1m), first Tuesday ($42m), opening week ($552.9m), and first 10 days ($654.3m).
The tentpole also became the fastest release to cross every $100m threshold from $400m to $900m, reaching $400m in four days, $500m in seven, $600m in nine, $700m in 13, $800m in 19, and $900m in 36 days.
Brand New Day remained the number one release for six consecutive weekends, grossed the second-highest Saturday of all time on $101.5m behind Avengers: Endgame on $109.3m in April 2019, and became only the second film in history to surpass $300m in its opening weekend after Endgame debuted to $357.1m.
The cast includes Zendaya, Sadie Sink, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Tramell Tillman, Michael Mando, and Mark Ruffalo. Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers co-wrote the screenplay and the producers are Kevin Feige, Amy Pascal, Avi Arad, and Rachel O’Connor.
