Toronto Film School‘s Film Production program has landed in the top 10 on CourseCompare‘s list of the Best Film Schools in Canada for 2026.

CourseCompare – Canada’s leading marketplace for comparing schools, courses and tuition – develops its rankings based on academic quality, graduate outcomes, industry feedback and student ratings.

Its annual film school ranking comes at a moment of real momentum for Canada’s screen industry. In the 2023/24 production year, the sector generated $9.58 billion in total production volume and contributed roughly $11.04 billion to GDP, supporting more than 179,000 jobs nationwide. Toronto remains one of the country’s anchor production hubs, with Ontario accounting for about 36 per cent of national activity and attracting both domestic creators and major international projects.

Film schools, CourseCompare noted, play a central role in fueling that talent pipeline. Its rankings look for programs that blend technical training, creative development and hands-on experience, preparing graduates to contribute to real productions across a range of roles – from directing and cinematography, to editing, sound design and post-production.

In its write-up on Toronto Film School, CourseCompare described TFS as offering “a hands-on, collaborative education opportunity covering all aspects of filmmaking,” with small classes and plenty of one-on-one instruction and mentoring. Students train at TFS’s campus at 120 Bloor St. E. in downtown Toronto, building professional networks both in the classroom and out in the field.

Student feedback was among the factors CourseCompare weighed in building its rankings, and Film Production alumnus Félix Roberge’s review on the platform reflects why TFS stood out:

“I’ve enjoyed the entirety of the syllabus, complete and multidimensional. I was able to not only sharpen my creative intuitions, but also to have a more exact sense as to how to deploy them more effectively in the context of a large-scale production,” he wrote.

“There, I was given the opportunity to flourish not only as a cinephile, but also as someone with the necessary toolkit to be an effective part of the industry. I’m now working as a producer for a production company, three years (and a pandemic) after my graduation, and I still have deep connections with some of my professors.”

The Film Production program at TFS is an 18-month, accelerated diploma that covers the creative, technical and business dimensions of filmmaking. Students shoot on the same professional gear used on today’s Hollywood films and TV series and graduate with a portfolio of work ready for the industry.

CourseCompare noted that the program can take graduates in a variety of directions, including roles as a director, producer, camera operator, sound designer or post-production supervisor.
