Official Trailer for Biopic Doc ‘The One About Matthew Perry’ on Netflix
“He meant so much in so many ways.” Netflix has revealed an official trailer for a tragic new documentary titled The One About Matthew Perry, a three-part biopic doc series about the life of beloved Canadian actor Matthew Perry. As everyone already knows, Perry passed away in October 2023 at only age 54 from extensive ketamine use. The actor was famous for his role as Chandler Bing on the sitcom “Friends”. He also appeared on “Ally McBeal”, “The West Wing”, “The Ron Clark Story”, “Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip”; along with the films Fools Rush In, Almost Heroes, Three to Tango, The Whole Nine Yards, Serving Sara, The Whole Ten Yards, and 17 Again, along with other roles as well as addiction support activism. Told through intimate testimonies from close family and friends, this documentary event reveals the real Matthew Perry—generous, funny, vulnerable, larger than life—and the battles he fought to become the man behind the icon. A raw record of a life lived in full, and the honesty that became his greatest legacy. It looks sad yet moving.
Here’s the trailer (+ poster) for Mary Robertson’s doc The One About Matthew Perry, from YouTube:
“Matthew Perry was one of the comedic geniuses of our time. Through his many films, TV and stage performances, and his unforgettable portrayal of Chandler Bing, he made millions of us laugh, connect, and feel a little less alone. He also gave us so much more by bravely speaking about addiction. Yet the public only knew part of his story. That’s why we set out to make this film: to let the people who knew and loved Matthew reveal the person behind the public figure.” –Director Mary Robertson
The One About Matthew Perry is the first in-depth, definitive documentary about Matthew Perry since his passing, arriving on the 3-year anniversary of his death in October 2023. Told across three episodes, the series gives itself room to explore the full scope of who Matthew was: the comedic genius, the man who grappled with addiction, the advocate in the addiction & recovery space, and — perhaps most importantly — the human being and friend. Tender & unflinching, the series doesn’t separate Matthew’s humor from his pain, or his celebrity fame from his addiction. It sits with both, the way the people who loved him had to as well. Millions around the world are touched by addiction — with their own, or someone they love — and this series speaks directly to them. The One About Matthew Perry is directed by award-winning doc producer / filmmaker Mary Robertson, also a director on the doc series “Frontline”, “Brad Meltzer’s Lost History”, “Tricky Dick”, “Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV”. Produced by Jessica Call. And executive produced by Mary Robertson, Lisa Kalikow, Eli Holzman, Aaron Saidman. Netflix debuts The One About Matthew Perry doc streaming on Netflix globally starting October 27th, 2026 this fall. Worth a watch?
