James Gunn and Peter Safran of DC Studios are looking to avoid walking papers after the dust-up at Warner Bros. Pictures <a href="https://cinemamix360.com/2026/10/06/we-shot-the-last-film-to-be-made-in-scotlands-chernobyl/” title=”We shot the last film to be made in 'Scotland's Chernobyl'”>last week saw studio heads Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy learning of their departure from reports instead of that news coming directly from Skydance‘s David Ellison. And it looks like Gunn is already in the early stages on his next feature film script.
Speaking with a fan on social media, the writer/director was asked directly if he has started writing his next big film after wrapping on the “Superman” sequel “Man of Tomorrow” (looking like quite the DC event film). However, the co-CEO of DC Studios stopped short of explaining or detailing what the project could be, and we’re sure the DC fandom is feverishly trying to discover what screenplay he’s writing.
“Already in it. I had to do something while I was waiting for the assembly,” Gunn said on Threads on Sunday, teasing what looks to be his next big script for the DCU.
A handful of DC films are in various levels of development, such as the big DCU Batman project “The Brave & The Bold“ (Andy Muschiettistill attached to direct despite jumping into season two of “IT: Weclome To Derry” and Gunn swatted down rumblings it was in trouble), a gestating “Wonder Woman” reboot(many folks believe “Man of Tomorrow” actress Adria Arjona has been tapped for the part), the “Teen Titans“ film, and possibly, while not official, we have to assume in the wake of the popularity of “Lanterns” a feature film spinoff is most likely on the table, too (Aaron Pierre is part of the “Man of Tomorrow” lineup).
Some other options could include a third “Superman” movie (rounding out a trilogy feels like the right move), “Suicide Squad 3” (a little weird that one hasn’t even been talked up), or a straight-up “Justice League/Justice Gang” pic. Maybe just maybe it’ll be something completely different than what we’re assuming it could be (stranger things have happened).

Their next big DC Studios release is “Clayface,” an R-rated body-horror movie featuring one of Batman’s more supernatural/sci-fi villains, and it is set to arrive on October 23, which feels more like an experiment in what other kinds of DC-adjacent stories audiences may or may not embrace. Perhaps, if Gunn is involved with the promotional tour for “Clayface,” we may learn more about his mystery script.
