From dark comedies and psychological thrillers to historical dramas and imaginative family adventures, Baltic Event Co-Production Market 2026 brings together 15 projects by filmmakers across Europe, exploring identity, family relationships, social tensions and human connection.

Co-Managers Helen Räim and Kärt Väinola describe what this years’ projects have to offer. They quote “This year’s Co-Production Market brings together 15 projects from 10 countries, with a strong focus on the Baltics and a spotlight on the Basque region. Belonging, love and growing up run through the whole line-up and eight of the projects are by debut feature directors, so we are welcoming a new generation of filmmakers to Tallinn and are excited to help these projects take their next steps.”

This year, the Baltic region is heavily represented – From Latoduced by Elina Jozauska (Münchhausen Films). Co-produced with Estonia and Sweden, the film follows a Lather of abusing her daughter

Another Latand produced by Līva Vernere and Uldis Cekulis (VFS Films), explores the conflict between religious devotion and family loyalty through the story of a teenage Jehovah’s Witness

Focus country Basque is represented by La Korena, directed by Joana Moya and produced by Estibaliz Urresola of SIRIMIRI FILMS. Set against a landscape shaped by iron mining, the film explores the relationship between nature, memory and human exploitation.

Lithuania is represented by The Informatics Olympiad, a social drama directed by Adas Burksaitis and produced by Greta Akcijonaite (Magic Film). The film follows a troubled 35-year-old who returns home to help his niece prepare for an informatics competition, confronting unresolved family relationships along the way.

Taking a darker turn, Wild Love, a Lithuanian co-production with Estonia and Laty Jonas Trukanas and produced by Klementina Remeikaite and Ruta Kiaupaite (afterschool), the film follows a Baltic dating show in Saaremaa that descends into chaos when contestants unleash a mysterious infection

Estonia’s Shadows of Summer, written and directed by Helen Takkin and produced by Elisabeth Madisson and Andreas Kask (Nafta Films), explores childhood trauma through the story of an actress who recreates her experiences of abuse at a summer theatre camp in an immersive performance sixteen years later.

Stories of war, history and personal transformation form another important part of this year’s selection. The Ukrainian-German-Czech production Family Squad, directed by Kostiantyn Fedorov and produced by Anna Eliseeva (Animagrad), blends together comedy and adventure. After an angel of death accidentally kills a lonely gas station attendant, he is offered a second chance at life if he can find someone who truly needs him, leading him to the Ukrainian front lines.

Another Ukrainian project, My 19-year-old Granny, directed by Victoria Zadorska and produced by Olena Yershova (TatoFilm), combines fantasy and historical drama. Co-produced with Lithuania and Czechia, it follows a bullied teenager who travels back to Soviet Ukraine in 1975, where she befriends her young hippie grandparents and discovers a world of rebellion and music.

From Poland, Lady Thatcher’s Feast, directed by Marcin Kluczykowski and produced by Piotr Śmiechowski (Telemark), follows a university canteen owner chosen to prepare a banquet for Margaret Thatcher in 1996. The assignment creates tensions with her left-wing activist son, turning a prestigious opportunity into a personal and political conflict.

The Polish-Lithuanian-Estonian production Zona, directed by Bartosz Brzeziński and produced by Karol Zagórski, Konrad Zagórski and Klaudia Pachuta (ZIZUFILMS), presents an intimate drama set in the Chernobyl exclusion zone, where a young Ukrainian deserter finds refuge with an elderly woman and forms an unlikely bond.

Further expanding the colourful selection, are stories exploring morality, belonging and the challenges of growing up. The Icelandic-Estonian production At Your Service, directed by Magnús Jónsson and produced by Sara Djeddou Baldursdóttir, Guðný Guðjónsdóttir and their fellow producers (Projects and Münchaussen Films), offers a dark comedy about a terminally ill artist who starts an illegal euthanasia business after Iceland closes its nursing homes.

From Finland, Clusterfuck, directed by Juho-Pekka Tanskanen and produced by Paria Eskandari and Juho-Pekka Tanskanen (Danish Bear Productions), examines teenage loneliness and the desire for acceptance. The coming-of-age drama follows a bullied 17-year-old who joins a reckless group of friends whose kidnapping pranks spiral dangerously out of control.

The Slovak-Czech production My World Upside Down, directed by Daniel Rihák and produced by Martina Saková and Daniel Rihák (WHAT IF Films), approaches prejudice through comedy. In a conservative Slovak village, an 11-year-old altar boy attempts to change his older brother after discovering he might be gay, inadvertently becoming the subject of similar rumours himself.

This years’ selection also includes imaginative stories for children and families, bringing fantasy and animation to the market. From the Netherlands, The Boy Who Loves the World, directed by Steven Wouterlood and produced by Maaike Neve and Joram Willink (BIND), follows a 12-year-old boy from another dimension who gets a brief chance to experience life and attempts to bring together two strangers who could become his future parents.

Rounding out the selection is the Finnish stop-motion animated feature Summer of the Moth, directed by Veera Lamminpää and produced by Petri Kemppinen (Good Hand Production). The story follows a grumpy elderly gardener and a magical time-travelling moth whose unexpected journey into the past helps them rediscover imagination, trust and hope.

The selected projects will be presented to an international jury of industry professionals: Stefan Prohorov, Bulgaria’s representative to Eurimages and Chair of its Promotion Working Group. He is joined by director Holly Daniel, the Arab region’s largest film market. With over 15 years of experience at Edinburgh International Film Festival. The third jury member is Ivo Felt, Estonian producer, sound designer and co-founder of Allfilm production copany.

The Best project will be handed the Eurimages Co-Production Development Award which includes a non-reimbursable subsidy of€20,000 for feature-length fiction, animation, and documentary films, which must be used exclusively to cover the development expenses of the co-production project.
