The film industry has never seen such levels of secrecy.
According to Deadline, studio A24 is keeping the plot of the Elden Ring film adaptation under such tight wraps that it is sending its employees to personally oversee potential rights buyers as they read the screenplay—representatives of the company travel to foreign distributors and are physically present while they review the script.
According to the outlet, this practice is unprecedented in the film industry. Furthermore, certain sections of the script are being withheld even from prospective partners, presumably to prevent leaks and maintain intrigue surrounding Alex Garland’s film.
In November, A24 will present the adaptation at the American Film Market in Los Angeles. Deadline’sen Ring the most expensive standalone movie ever offered for sale at a film or television market
Meanwhile, some rights have already been sold. Amazon MGM Studios acquired the first-window streaming rights for the film in several international markets, paying “tens of millions of dollars” for them. As a result, some time after its theatrical run, Elden Ring will become available on Prime Video in select countries.
Alex Garland wrote and directed the feature. Kit Connor stars in the lead role, joined by Ben Whishaw, Cailee Spaeny, Tom Burke, Sonoya Mizuno, Jonathan Pryce, and Nick Offerman. Elden Ring is scheduled to premiere on March 3, 2028.
