IT Home, November 7: Blackmagic Design released DaVinci Resolve 21.2 yesterday (November 6), along with the paid version, DaVinci Resolve Studio 21.2, introducing touch support and other enhancements to the editing, color grading, and visual effects workflows.
DaVinci Resolve is a professional video post-production software developed by Blackmagic Design, integrating editing, color grading, visual effects, motion graphics, audio post-production, and photo processing into a single application. It is commonly used in the production of short films, commercials, documentaries, movies, and user-generated content.
IT Home, citing a blog post, highlighted that the most notable improvement in this update is native support for Apple’s first MacBook Pro with a ProMotion XDR display, allowing creators to directly use their fingers to scroll through the timeline, drag and drop media, add effects and subtitles, and zoom in on the viewer—bringing mobile editing and color grading closer to a truly intuitive, “out-of-the-box” experience.
In terms of performance, Blackmagic claims that the new version can accelerate effect rendering by up to 5 times on devices equipped with the M5 Pro and M5 Max chips. For video teams that frequently work with high-resolution footage, complex compositing, and numerous color grading nodes, this optimization is expected to significantly reduce export and preview wait times.
In terms of color workflows, DaVinci Resolve 21.2 adds support for Blackmagic Generation 6 Color Science LUTs and film styles, while ResolveFX False Color now supports both Gen 5 and Gen 6 Color Science, enabling users to maintain more consistent image performance across different camera footage and color grading workflows.
In terms of editing experience, multi-camera edit clips can now be opened asain the original timecode; improvements have also been made to compound clips and EXIF metadata for PNGs. The software has resolved numerous issues related to audio, AAF, OGraf, H.265, and XDCAM media, and includes over 25 stability and performance fixes
Studio version users will also receive enhanced AI assistant features, including expanded capabilities in color grading and Fusion operations, as well as improved script API. The AI assistant can further handle frame- and thumbnail-related tasks, helping creators reduce repetitive operations.
DaVinci Resolve 21.2 is now available for free download continues to use a one-time purchase license, priced at $239.99 (IT Home note: approximately RMB 1,605 at current exchange rates)
