Capcom has recently released a ton of games that I’ve been wanting to play, including Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classic.

This is a collection of seven classic games featuring Marvel characters, including the first console version in 1993 punisher Defeat them. Other titles include X-Men: Children of the Atom, Marvel Super Heroes, X-Men vs Street Fighter, Marvel Super Heroes vs Street Fighter, Marvel vs Capcom: Super Heroes Battleand the one you love deeply Marvel vs. Capcom 2: A New Age of Heroes.

I’ve never played these games before but heard so much love for them MVC2 I’m excited to try them all. Capcom graciously provided me with the PC code for this review, but all thoughts below are my own.

If you want to play the collection, you can buy it digitally now on Nintendo Switch, PC, and PS4, with a physical version launching in November and an Xbox One version in 2025. Copies, including GameStop (affiliate link).

Therefore, I’ve decided that this review won’t be about the games included, but about getting through Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classic supply. The games themselves seem to be interesting and have their own legacies that seem untouched in this series. So is collecting a good experience?

I would like to remind you that I received the PC code, so my review is not a perfect representation of the PS4 or Nintendo Switch version Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classicbut many points are the same across the board.

First, the collection has a unified user interface and feel, which is nice. Whether you go to a museum, play online, or play offline, you’ll see tiles representing each game you can spin. The menu looks clear and clean without any issues.

The game also features a training mode, which can be accessed by simply pressing “Start” on your controller from the menu, rather than in-game. Additionally, you can adjust various gameplay options such as the number of turns, the amount of damage dealt, and more.

You can even adjust video settings such as screen ratio (I personally like full screen 4:3), border images, and filters (I think E is my personal favorite) to help the game look the way you think it should. There’s even a space for you to edit your controller layout. This is very important to me because for whatever reason they preset Y and B as light attacks and X and A as medium attacks, and I personally prefer swapping those attacks on the Xbox controller.

Everything added to the series looks great and even feels great. One thing does bother me, even though it probably shouldn’t. In the PC version, the illustrations are based on Xbox 360.

Whether I’m on the Steam Deck or on my desktop with an Xbox Series controller, the buttons are displayed using Xbox 360 graphics. This means they are brightly colored A, B, X, Y buttons, an oval with a triangle for “Go”, an oval with an opposite triangle for Back, and so on.

Honestly this makes Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classic It feels very dated to me. It just came out! Why not use the updated icon?

Another thing that bothers me a bit is that even if I set it to view full screen, it seems to block some system hotkeys. For example, I couldn’t use the hotkeys to take the screenshot above while I was focused on the game. I have to click on the desktop on the second monitor to do this. I also can’t use the Windows key to open the Start menu. This isn’t a deal-breaker per se, but it can be troublesome at times.

I can’t find any errors except the image Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classic. The games are snappy, they use rollback netcode for online play, and they run well on the two machines I tested them on. If you’re already a fan of these games, or have always wanted to try out these classics, I would recommend this series, which has an MSRP of only $49.99.
