‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Season 21 Episode 4 Spoilers: Too Close to Home

The new episode isn’t here yet, but I can already feel my heart breaking. Let’s take a look at the spoilers for Grey’s Anatomy Season 21 Episode 4.

According to the latest promo, we’ll be introduced to Chloe next week.

Chloe is Mika’s 22-year-old sister, who has just been diagnosed with a devastating cancer.

‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Season 21 Episode 4 Spoilers: Another Heartbreaking Cancer Story

There are a few things worth noting about this storyline.

First, Midori Frances announced she was quitting the cast of Grey’s Anatomy ahead of the new season premiere.

Of course, I wonder if the writers will use Chloe to explain Yasuda’s decision to leave, or if the situation will be more complicated than that.

As seen in Grey’s Anatomy Season 5 Episode 17, sometimes cancer can be hereditary and affect the entire family.

While I really hope that’s not the case with the Yasuda siblings, my concern now is that Mika will learn that she also has cancer, causing her to drop out of the residency program for treatment.

Worse, they might decide to kill Micah, which would just be another example of the terrible “bury your gays” trope.

    LGBTQ+ representation on Grey’s Anatomy

Even though Micah asked Jules to put their developing romance on hold on Grey’s Anatomy Season 21 Episode 3, fans are still hopeful that their spark will continue to ignite.

    I get it, trust me.

As a queer fan of Grey’s Anatomy, I know how poorly the show handles LGBTQ+ relationships.

I imagine this won’t happen again as Micah needs friendship more than romance now, but it’s hard to watch a favorite ship sink.

The good news is that even with Jake Borelli and Midori Francis leaving, there are still several queer characters on the show.

Amelia, Monica, Teddy, and Jules are all revealed to be bisexual, Helm is a lesbian, and newcomer James (the Reverend) is gay.

Plus, if Carina DeLuca returns after Station 19 ends, we can expect to see more of her relationship with wife Maya.

I completely understand why Grey’s fans would be concerned about the treatment of queer couples on the show.

I just hope that we can learn from past mistakes and that we can look forward to solid representation of the LGBTQ+ community.

If not, it would be much harder to watch boring heterosexual relationships like Owen and Teddy or Meredith and Nick.

Grey’s Anatomy Season 21 Episode 4 Spoilers: Does anyone care about Nick and Meredith?

    Oh, and about Nick.

    I think he’s fine.

There’s no real passion between him and Meredith, but he’s willing to make her the sun in a way that Derek never could, so I can’t hate him.

But I do think he’s underutilized.

Aside from Meredith’s puppy-like sidekick, Nick is actually a pretty good teacher.

He has a deep understanding of the interns and their needs, especially Adams.

Lucas and the much-needed neurodivergent storyline

The writers had put him in charge of a residency plan, which, of course, was dashed when he followed Meredith to Boston.

But I’d really like to see the connection between Nick and Adams grow and the young doctor continue his internship.

Lucas clearly needs a mentor, and it really should be one who understands neurodivergence (by the way, will they continue that ADHD storyline?).

Adams has a lot of potential, but first he has to make his own path. If he does have ADHD, his life may become easier once he admits it.

The child also has to find a way to get out of the shadow of his family.

Between Derek and Amelia (not to mention his own mother and all three of his other aunts), Adams has a huge family legacy of medical excellence.

He clearly feels he has a responsibility to live up to the shepherds who guided him into this profession (sorry, I had to).

Now that Lucas and Simon have made their relationship official and he’s starting to get some credit at work, maybe he’ll finally start to feel worthy.

It would be nice to end the angst of Griffith and Adams – maybe we’d get a healthy, lasting relationship from these two.

It’s been a while since we’ve had content like this, but hopefully Ben’s return will mean more Ben/Miranda content.

‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Season 21 Episode 4 Spoilers: Warren’s Big Return

Warren is about to come to terms with reality when he officially joins the residency program next week.

Between the inevitable nepotism issues and the fact that he hasn’t been to a surgical practice in a long time, Ben faces an uphill battle.

In the promo, we get confirmation that Ben is having a hard time keeping up with the demands of his job.

He’s never been a bad doctor, but he has a history of making rash decisions in stressful situations – both as a doctor and as a firefighter.

It will be interesting to see if the writers will lean into that part of Ben’s character, or if his new journey back into medicine will reflect personal growth.

    Next week’s focus

It looks like Mika and Chloe will be at the center of next week’s episode, with Mika seeking help from her sister at all costs.

Chloe’s cancer diagnosis was terrible. But Mika is determined to save her, and she’ll recruit every doctor in Seattle to help.

I’m a goofball, a good loyal brother storyline.

If we have to say goodbye to Yasuda, I’m glad we got to see first how loyal and talented she was.

This upcoming section is definitely going to be heavy, so I’ll bring tissues and chocolate.

In the meantime, if you have any theories, hopes, or burning questions before this episode, let me know in the comments!

Grey’s Anatomy airs Thursdays at 10/9c on ABC.
