There may be more 9-1-1 in the future, and the possibilities surrounding it are endless.
Most recently, when Variety broke the news that Ryan Murphy is developing another spinoff of the hit EMT show, it could come after 9-1-1: Lone Star officially ends its five-season run , many thoughts came to my mind.
Fans are excited to hear there’s more 9-1-1 to devour, but the scant details have left many wondering what exactly the latest spinoff will bring.
Will an original character from the original series or Lone Star find a new spinoff so that viewers already know a familiar face? Or will there be an entirely new cast for this new series?
Will they keep the same settings as everyone else or make changes?
The most important question is: In which city will the spin-off take place?
Many American cities offer fantastic new adventures, some more meaningful than others. But that doesn’t stop me from compiling a list of the top seven cities I’d like to see the next wave of first responders settle in!
Let me know in the comments what you think after checking out this list!
New York
New York was a pretty obvious choice because it’s New York and we’ve seen countless first responder shows take place there over the years.
But 9-1-1 is different from other shows. It had just begun its eighth season of the original series when a bee tornado caused a commercial plane and a smaller aircraft to collide in the sky.
You won’t see this anywhere else on television.
As one of the most densely populated cities in the world, a variety of emergencies can occur. Think of all the landmarks they can have fun with around this big city.
Think of emergencies near famous landmarks (because emergencies don’t happen inside the Statue of Liberty – that’s bad for business!), or accidents on the steps of the MET.
A major emergency to start the season might require some imagination, but if there’s anything we can expect from this team, it’s over-the-top action that, while not entirely realistic, will be fun to watch.
That’s what television is about.
boston
The team traveled to Boston in “9-1-1” Season 5 Episode 12, and Chimney visited an old friend from 118 after learning of McGrady’s whereabouts after leaving Los Angeles.
If the decision were made to bring the show to Boston, Eli would already be there and he could serve as a link to the original show and provide a good reason for another crossover later on.
Chimney could come to town for another visit (backdoor pilot, anyone?), and from there, we could have him helping out at the firehouse and introduce us to the new cast through a familiar face.
In addition to these possibilities, Boston is another historic city with many popular attractions that can serve as a great backdrop for emergencies.
Of all the cities in the country, Boston is really the only one with a built-in connection to the OG 118 house, which would be a great starting point for a new chapter in the series.
Miami
Welcome to Miami!
I don’t know what kind of five-alarm fires happen in Miami on a regular basis. Still, the sun, beach vibe, lots of tourists, and money may be enough to handle many of the fire department’s emergencies.
Gosh, it sounds a little like Los Angeles when you spell it like that.
But given the access to the beach, there’s likely to be a lot of overlap with emergency responder services, which would make the image of first responders and lifeguards we’re used to interesting.
Beach crime syndicate? Late night shenanigans during spring break?

las vegas
If the franchise wanted to stay in the west, Sin City would be an obvious choice since they could explore so many different things, from emergencies up and down the strip to expansion into the desert.
A wide range of activities can occur at casinos, ranging from minor medical injuries to criminal mischief.
Do you remember Josh Duhamel’s Las Vegas series? There’s always something going on at that fake hotel, and there’s a lot of potential in bringing in firefighters and dispatchers.
There are many facets to a casino operation, and every facet leaves room for emergencies!
Beyond the zone lies a vast desert with all the room for error that lies at the heart of every 9-1-1 series.
Long live Las Vegas!
new orleans
Can you imagine all the emergencies on Bourbon Street?
Or in the swamp?
Depending on how they choose to present it, the Big Easy will provide a very different setting than what we’re used to, as it won’t have a big city feel.
We’ve seen TV series take place there before, with the first one that comes to mind being the spin-off NCIS: New Orleans . That show did a great job of showing off the beauty of the city, and “9-1-1” does that as well.
New Orleans is a great, underrated American city, and if they tried to be another southern city, they could do a lot worse.
Nowhereville, America
It’s questionable whether “9-1-1” would choose an unnamed location for a spin-off when the new location would be part of attracting new viewers.
You’d be surprised how many people will tune into a show simply because it takes place in the city they live in or a city they love and want to see on screen.
But imagine they chose to settle in a town or city that was unfamiliar to most people, and then used this lack of knowledge to make that town their own.
I’m not saying they made anything up, but it might be fun to explore a smaller, lesser-known city and introduce something different to a new audience.
It can be fun to see emergencies unfold around familiar American landmarks, but it can also be cool to see something that’s never happened before.
There is beauty in familiar places, and there is also beauty in unknown places.
Philadelphia
This is purely a self-indulgent choice because I love the City of Brotherly Love, the birthplace of American Democracy!
Considering it’s a major US market, it sometimes feels like the city doesn’t host a lot of shows. Sure, there’s currently “Abbott Elementary” and “Alert: Missing Persons Unit,” but can you think of other long-form dramas that have taken place there in recent years?
Philadelphia is a beautiful big city, just like Los Angeles and Austin. It has both an urban side and a more “suburban” surrounding area.
It’s also known for its food, so maybe firefighters like to go to a local place for cheesesteaks after a long shift. This would make a lovely set for the series, and who doesn’t love a cute set?
The world could always use a cuter set!
