The Equalizer, starring Queen Latifah as our favorite crime-fighting vigilante, is back for its fifth season.
The season opener was bittersweet, but it didn’t waste any time letting us know what’s happening to our favorite characters.
Will Robin and Dante find their way back to each other? Is Mel gone forever? Will Miles stay? Is Robin leaving her team?
The Equalizer Season 4 finale left us with a lot of questions. The new season begins in a few months, and within minutes of the episode airing, we already know what we’re getting into – a fractured team and a lot of chaos!
This is a hard episode to watch because we learn that Mel really doesn’t work with the team anymore now. She is working on improving her mental health. After we see Mel in a way we’ve never seen her before, she’s exactly what she should be – a hysterical mess.
Dante was also unable to contact him and he had left for California to find a new job. Let’s hope things go back to the way they were, because the team is falling apart.
The team is falling apart!
We feel just as scary now as Robin does as she goes off on her own to save two foster kids who are being hunted by serious criminals.
I thought that after Mel went to yoga with Delilah, Harry would stick around to help her out, and Dante had his own case to deal with.
But after being severely hit by a group of weapons smugglers wanted by the ATF, Robin was left to fend for himself.
We can’t blame her for being so negative when she says she can only rely on herself. When she said there was no team, my heart ached for her!
Case of the week
This week’s case is interesting yet simple. It’s the perfect way to show us how broken everyone on the team is.
It drives home how much the team needs each other. Robin can stand her ground, but she needs support, which becomes clear when she’s tied to a chair and fails to bring the bad guys to justice.
He was also saved by a child. This is the first time for her!
By the end of the episode, Robin is physically and emotionally torn apart. To make matters worse, she made enemies by running away to save her life, and they were all gone.
Of course, she saved the children. But she stole a truck full of banned weapons from the NYPD, so that’s what happened!
Now, she might leave Harry for not returning his calls. Of course, this increased the pressure he put on Mel.
Could Aunt Violet’s comments about taking a break be a sign that Robin might seriously decide to stop her underground operation?
home
Speaking of Aunt Violet, she had some great scenes in this week’s episode!
Myers has really stepped up his presence and game since Dante left. He wanted Robin back, and if there was ever a time, it was now.
Robin is fragile and needs someone to lean on. Miles filled the role, which opened Robin’s eyes to possibilities.
If you recall, Robin made comments last season about giving Myers another chance. It’s hard not to think that writers’ rooms are toying with our emotions.
Aunt Wei was not happy with this. She was very direct with Miles. She and Delilah also have some quality time together when she discusses Mel’s panic attacks.
Mel keeps a secret
Season 4 left us with some serious questions when it came to Mel, and it looks like we’re getting some answers that I really don’t like.
I really like Mel’s new carefree attitude.
But by the end of the episode, we learn that Mel is struggling with PTSD and anxiety.
Even Harry seems fooled by her newfound happiness, telling Dante that she has no plans to return to the team.
I thought she would eventually return to the team, sooner or later. Now, she has a lot more to deal with than I originally thought.
Dante is missing
Mel isn’t the only one struggling with her current path in life. Dante also seems to be struggling with his new life.
We see a lot more of him in this episode than I expected. Our favorite detective seems to be homesick, having talked to Harry several times about Robin’s latest case.
He’s checking in on Robin and trying to help with the difficult times her team is currently facing.
How long can he try to micromanage on the West Coast? We were sure some effort had to go into it.
There’s also a chance he’ll notice Miles hanging out more than usual!
What are your thoughts on the season opener?
Are you a Dante team or a Miles team? Do you think Robin will go it alone, or will he try to bring everyone back together?
