Well, readers, TV Fanatic has some news for you. Madeleine Matlock will finally have her day in the sun and in court. Who says you can’t bring criminals to justice and have an AARP membership at the same time?
It might not be all rainbows and smiles though, as you can see in the promo, Madeleine isn’t exactly excited about the opportunity. Then again, she did want Olympia’s trust.
One thing we can count on is that not everything is as it seems in Matlock. The show has done everything it can to keep viewers on their toes.
Given that the wheels are just starting to turn, viewers have a full season of twists and turns ahead of them.
Madeleine Kingston could cause real problems for Madeleine Matlock
In the final episodes, Marty’s main goal is to become closer to Jacobson and Moore. It hasn’t been the smoothest transition, but Madeleine Kingston has a few tricks up her sleeve.
At the end of Matlock Season 1 Episode 2, she almost avoided Olympia’s suspicion.
The next episode shows the fruits of this labor, as Olympia assigns Marty to her first case. You’d think Madeleine would be ecstatic about the opportunity.
There’s one thing about Matlock that keeps me scratching my head in curiosity. Although Madeleine Kingston pretended to be Madeleine Matlock, she did not pretend to be a lawyer.
In fact, she worked as a lawyer for many years and didn’t retire nearly as long as her alter ego. So there is a record of Madeline Kingston (Kathy Bates) practicing law.
Depending on the type of law she practices, she may be registered with multiple state registries. Given her qualifications and status, there must be many documents with her face on them.
Sun Tzu had to be able to go back decades and rewrite Madeleine Kingston’s entire career. But you never know. That’s the magic of storytelling.
The lines between the original Matlock and the reboot are starting to blur
It will be interesting to see how Madeline becomes a lawyer as Matlock instead of Kingston. We may be seeing more from the original series.
Speaking of Andy Griffith’s performance, the reboot of Matlock did an impressive job of keeping the original on their tongues. Every episode so far has referenced the 1986 episode.
Not to raise anyone’s expectations, but I was hoping for an epic trial scene like the original. You already know that Kathy Bates will be giving a monologue masterclass.
She’ll need to pull out all the stops to impress Olympia. Madeleine has been on her best behavior and now is not the time for her to reach into the cookie jar.
Especially when it looks like there are some new faces heading our way.
With fiery auburn hair, ivory skin and ocean blue eyes
The official synopsis for Matlock Season 1, Episode 3 reads: “Marty’s rusty trial skills are put to the test in the wrongful termination case of a woman who claims her boss sexually harassed her.
“In addition, Shae, the firm’s jury consultant and polygraph guru, has joined the case.”
Chief among the plot details is the introduction of the company’s “lie detector.” If you’ve seen the promo in the Matlock Season 1 Episode 2 spoilers, you might recognize a certain red-headed woman.
The promo for the episode is more of a catch-all for the season. However, the red-haired woman was eventually revealed to be a key employee of Jacobson Moore.
The actress who plays Shae is none other than Yael Grobglas. Viewers may recognize the actor from her two-decade career in the entertainment industry.
She is known for her roles in Supergirl, Reign and Jane the Virgin. So, this lovely lady has done her time and been on the air, specifically on the CW.
From what we’ve seen in the promos, she seems to be a passionate woman who has had her eye on Marty from the beginning. Shae also seems completely crazy, and that’s what I’m here for.
It’s a metaphor, but I love those wacky fact finders who don’t trust anyone and think there’s a hidden meaning behind everything someone says. Those crazy jobs gave me life.
Fingers crossed this is the energy Shay brings to the entire show.
At this point, fans know better than to trust anything from the Matlock writers, right?
Lately, I’ve noticed a trend in shows where plot characters are no longer treated as disposable plot devices.
The first episode of Elsbeth’s second season demonstrates this by bringing back characters from the first season and referencing those they couldn’t. I hope the same goes for Matlock.
It would be nice to see Patricia Belcher’s Mrs. B more than once every five episodes. Her character is a cliché but adds a much-needed edge to the character.
Plus, the more characters there are, the easier it becomes to distract Marty from getting the items she needs.
The show seems to be pushing for Olympia to be connected to the opioid case Marty is investigating. However, as an audience, we know better than to trust the screenwriter, right?
The job they did was incredible and exceeded expectations, and they certainly won’t be letting their guard down anytime soon. If it seems like Olympia is the culprit, she probably isn’t.
This season has aired a series of exciting episodes that will keep people guessing.
From ‘Matlock’ to ‘Agatha Along’ to ‘High Potential’ and even ‘FROM,’ the 2024 TV season has one great show after another on TV and streaming .
Matlock is the protagonist in the minds of the audience. So many of you have commented on how much you love the show, and I’m with you.
The writing and storytelling are impeccable. The performance is a perfect balance of heart and humor. One of the core elements of the series is the cases.
Each week, viewers are introduced to stories and lives that parallel real-world events. So hats off to the folks behind Matlock for not being afraid to showcase challenging and often traumatic topics.
As viewers, we have a lot to look forward to for the rest of the season. But in the next episode, we get to see Madeleine Kingston as Madeleine Matlock trying a case for the first time in thirty years.
It’s going to be a fun and angsty ride that I’ll be on the edge of my seat enjoying along with the rest of you. Now, check out the promo for CBS’ Matlock Season 1 Episode 3 below!
