Former President Barack Obama weighed in on Kamala Harris and Tim Walz on Tuesday night (October 22) in next month’s 2024 presidential election Soak up the music at previous Detroit rallies.
The Detroit native rapper took the stage to introduce Obama at the event, telling the cheering crowd: “I’m here tonight for a few reasons. As most of you know, the city of Detroit and my home state of Michigan have always been so important to me. It means a lot. Going into this election, the spotlight is on us more than ever, and I think it’s important to make your voice heard, so I encourage everyone to get out and vote.
He continued, “I also think people shouldn’t be afraid to express their opinions, and I don’t think anyone wants an America where people fear retaliation or worry about what people will do if you express your opinion. I think Vice President Harris supports that. This and many other freedoms will be protected and preserved well into the future of this country.
Obama then took to the podium and jokingly told the audience: “I have to say, I go to a lot of rallies. So, I don’t usually feel nervous, but I feel like I’m following Eminem.
The former president then launched into rapping the opening verse of Em’s Hot 100 chart-topping song “Lose Yourself,” noting that his “sweaty palms, weak knees / Heavy arms, already vomited on my sweater / Mom’s spaghetti /Although I am very nervous, on the surface I am already calm.
After deafening cheers, Obama joked: “I thought Eminem was going to perform, so I jumped.”
