kingdom of the planet of the apes Trying to add a layer to an existing franchise. Never heard of Caesar’s clan. The apes do not know the true creed of the primitive leader. The film does pay some tribute to both the original and the new series, starting with the 2011 reimagining of the ape world.
The original was co-written by Rod Serling, a master of the quirky and thoughtful material, and starred Charlton Heston as Taylor. The astronauts find themselves on Earth. Someone he didn’t know. *Michael Wilson also wrote the screenplay based on the novel by Pierre Boulle.
As mentioned in previous reviews, this 1968 film was groundbreaking. Male frontal nudity and state-of-the-art “ape-like” prosthetics. I remember seeing it in the cinema and being blown away. The realization in the Statue of Liberty scene is breathtaking.

The show’s main cast is impressive.
Kevin Duran is almost Caesar. A lover of Roman history, he hopes modern technology will help him reach the top.
Owen Teague plays Noah. A young ape who continues to grow during his battle with Caesar.
Freya Allen is Nova. A human scientist who formed a bond with Noah and traveled with him.
Peter Macon is Raqqa. He almost steals the movie. This quirky and hilariously intelligent orangutan travels with and teaches Noah.
William H. Macy is Trevathan. As a traitor of his own kind, he taught the near-Caesar the ways of the world through books.
story
Noah, the son of his tribe’s “bird masters,” is looking for something to combine with his bird eggs. *A not-so-short aside: This idea of a connection to a flying creature is reminiscent of the late Anne McCaffrey and her “Penn’s Dragon” series. A wonderful fantasy series well worth your time reading. I’ve always wanted to see a movie version of this world. The closest movie to the theme of this story is Avatar, which is a pale imitation of McCaffrey’s Dragons and Their Riders.
While Noah was away, his tribe was overrun by Caesar’s men. Noah lost his father and set out to save his tribe. Along the way he meets Nova and Raka. The three try to take down Proximous.
it works
The motion capture, CG and direction make this an enjoyable experience. Director: Wes Ball did a great job recreating the story of the original Planet of the Apes. Writers; Josh Friedman, Rick Jaffa, and Amanda Silver (Rick Jaffa’s wife) provide us with a sense The real world.
A story about growth and ambition. Durand’s Caesar is an arrogant man and a complete narcissist. To be fair, this is not a new story. A son avenging his family and saving his people is nothing new.
However.
Although the journey is mundane, the motion capture makes the story feel real and unforgettable.
Peter Macon
The actor plays Lieutenant. Bortus on the Orville. I’ve never seen it. It doesn’t matter because Macon is just as memorable as Raqqa. His portrayal of the kind, studious, and intelligent intellectual orangutan almost effortlessly steals the show.
He would have it without motion capture and Kevin Durand.
Kevin Durand
Kevin Durand is at kingdom of the planet of the apes marvelous. He plays a role that should have been played by Ron Perlman a few years ago. But Durand made the character his own. This isn’t just a motion capture aspect. This depends on Durand’s own special performance style.
In one scene, the neighboring Caesar is anxiously questioning Noah. As the camera zooms in, a close-up of the ape leader shows us that beneath all the “magic” of motion capture technology, Kevin Durand is right there. Even behind the digital mask, his voice remains loud and clear.
As Caesar, he chews the scenery admirably. “What a beautiful day” indeed.
Why nova doesn’t work
kingdom of the planet of the apes There’s no real replacement for the original 1968 story at all. Nova, also known as Mae, was not a suitable replacement for Taylor. She is not an astronaut, nor is she an astronaut from a different era. Mae/ Nova belongs to this time and place. She is a scientist and knows a lot about cultural times. Tyler is a fish out of water and must fight against nearly everything and everyone to survive.
Nova is the representative of human beings who belong to this world. She is a scientist and a survivor. she is part of it all kingdom of the planet of the apes. No unwilling participant falls from the sky like a new bird leaving the nest.
but.
Nova is a big sign of the next movie in this new series. Just like astronaut murals and observatories, this is like a “key” connecting humans and apes. And connect them all to Serling original version. Nova’s story is a glorious foreshadowing of the “past” leading to the present.
Perhaps the next film in this new series will include a space traveler like Tyler and his doomed friend.
judgment
I had a fight with this guy. Initially, I wanted to give this a full 5 stars. However, considering the lack of real originality in the story, we opted for 4 out of 5 stars. Funny, smart and very relevant, kingdom of the planet of the apes Close; but the movie is certainly entertaining. Currently streaming on Hulu.
