The Equalizer deviates from the typical crime case this episode and mixes things up.
In honor of the spooky season, this time is filled with murder, terror, and—you guessed it—the supernatural.
Who would have thought a pair of doll hands could be so creepy?
This episode is aptly titled “Haunted Heights,” and rightly so.
The hour begins with a nightmarish scene in which a woman named Priscilla escapes from the darkness of her apartment building. She died after falling down the stairs.
Her granddaughter Kara hires Robin and the team to find out what’s going on.
Robin takes on the case, thinking they’re hunting a stalker.
But we know better after seeing the chilling opening scene.
The story gets even weirder when the police rule his death an accident, but Robin doesn’t believe it.
After the first episode of Season 5, Robin was surprised to see Harry updated on the case. I’m sure she’ll fly solo after she gets into a dangerous situation.
Robin accepted their apology after Harry and Mel left Robin to fend for himself in very dangerous circumstances.
I think Robin forgives them too quickly.
She’s incredibly easygoing with them, and it’s not over yet.
The mistrust between them as a team will definitely resurface.
Robin’s unhealthy belief that she can only rely on herself will also be a future issue that I hope the writers room decides to address.
Especially if these three try to get back to where they were before.
Harry sets out to debunk the supernatural
After arriving at the apartment complex and witnessing strange footage of Priscilla’s death reluctantly provided by the creepy Super Leo, Robin and Harry believe they are faced with something entirely different.
Robin seems indifferent to the supernatural. Harry is determined to uncover the paranormal activity that all the tenants believe is terrorizing their building.
In Harry fashion, he installed motion sensors, heat sensors, and cameras throughout the building.
He planned to stay the night. Those flickering lights and dark hallways, you don’t pay me enough!
This scene brought much-needed humor to the episode, until I realized he would be spending the night alone without Robin. This is not a good choice.
The two didn’t learn from last week’s drama, as Robin left Harry behind so she could help Marcus.
Marcus needs help
Apparently, Marcus has no idea what Robin is dealing with, because he needs a favor: an old cellmate who’s tracking down the criminal Diavolo he’s hunting.
Robin travels to the Bronx and manages to find the man Marcus is looking for. She gets a clue on where to find Diavolo.
Meanwhile, some major developments are being made in Harry and Robin’s case.
Harry was convinced that he had proven that there was nothing supernatural about Priscilla’s death.
She is frightened by the noises made by a squatter named Bobby, who he discovers is living in the attic.
That’s clearly not the case when Harry starts acting strangely in the lobby of his apartment building, while Bobby remains unaffected.
Harry’s crazy hallucinations send Mel back to work
While on the phone with Mel, Harry started slapping things that weren’t there.
Mel arrives at the apartment complex just in time to save him from his hallucinations.
Together, they realize what Harry has known all along—that the forces at work here are not supernatural, but someone deliberately exposing the residents to carbon monoxide to cause them to hallucinate.
My money is on my sister, who co-owns the apartment complex with her brother. But the girlfriend hopes to evict the tenant so that her boyfriend can sell it.
Aunt Viola receives terrible news
Much of the episode focused on Robin and Harry’s case, as well as Mel’s continued struggle with her mental health and group meetings.
But what about Aunt Viola’s possible health issues?
We learn in this episode that she needed a biopsy after a recent mammogram.
Not much was said about her health scare, and now didn’t seem like the time to introduce such a serious storyline.
The writers room spent more time on Delilah’s senior portrait, which is indeed a boring storyline.
Delilah felt insecure about her lover, Cam, and changed her braids into curls.
Eventually, she learned that Cam wasn’t spying on her, but had been busy.
Meanwhile, in terms of relationships, Robin and Marcus remain unchanged in their brief conversations. Not much else happened between them.
Both men avoid having any real conversations about their current situations, which is frustrating!
After appearing to be homesick in the closing scenes, will he return to New York sooner than we think?
Will Aunt Viola tell Robin and Delilah about her health issues? Myers was missing from the game this week. Will he get back together with Robin again?
