Sabrina Carpenter’s ‘Taste’ (Island Records) refuses to relinquish its spot on the Official UK Singles Chart, spending a ninth week at No.1.
“Unstoppable” remains the most played song in the UK this week, with over 5.2 million plays, cementing its status as the longest-running No. 1 single of 2024 and marking another milestone for Carpenter.
The pop star is on an impressive winning streak in 2024, achieving an impressive feat with “Taste.” No. 1 artist on the singles chart. The record included her chart-topping songs “Espresso” (which stayed at #1 for seven weeks) and “Please Please Please” (which stayed at #1 for five weeks). The last time an artist accomplished such a feat was Frankie Laine in 1953.
But the race for the top spot is heating up. Gigi Perez’s hit indie album “Sailor Song” climbs to No. 2, putting pressure on “Taste,” while Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars hit No. 2 with “Die With A Smile” (Interscope) ranked third.
Meanwhile, BLACKPINK’s ROSÉ made UK chart history this week. Her track “APT”. “Black Label” and “Atlantic”, a collaboration with Bruno Mars, debuted at No. 4, making her the first female K-pop singer to enter the top ten of the UK Official Singles Chart. This marks ROSÉ’s first Top 40 single, having previously peaked at No. 43 with her 2021 single “On The Ground” (YG Entertainment and Interscope). Two of her BLACKPINK bandmates, JISOO and JENNIE, also achieved solo success, with “FLOWER” (BLISSOO) and “Mantra” (Odd Atelier and Columbia Records) reaching the Top 40 respectively.
Elsewhere in the charts, One Direction’s resurgence continues with the passing of Liam Payne.
Two of the band’s fan-favorite songs return to the top 10: “Night Changes” (Syco Music and Columbia Records) peaks at No. 6, surpassing its original peak of No. 7 in 2013, while “Night Changes” (Syco Music and Columbia Records) peaks at No. 6. Story Of” “My Life” returned to No. 9. “What Makes You Beautiful” also generated renewed interest, climbing to No. 23.
Additionally, three of Payne’s solo albums have re-entered the broader charts, including “Strip That Down” (Capitol) with Quavo at No. 41, and “For You” (Universal Pictures and Republic Records) at No. 43, and his final solo album, Teardrops (Capitol Records), debuted at No. 85 on the chart.
Addison Rae’s “Diet Pepsi” (Columbia) moves up two spots to No. 12, Billie Eilish’s “WILDFLOWER” (Interscope) reaches a new high at No. 17, and Gracie Abrams returns to No. 1, further boosting the rankings trend.
Further down, Teddy Swims moves up 10 spots to No. 25 with “Bad Dreams” (Warner Records), and Morgan Wallen ranks at No. 40 with “Love Somebody” (Mercury Records/Republic Records). A third UK top 40 single.
