Do you remember when Hilary Burton came on Grey’s Anatomy and rocked the main characters’ relationships?
Well, it looks like Burton is on pretty much the same mission when his One Tree Hill co-star Sophia Busch joins the cast.
We’re watching a promo and discussing spoilers for Grey’s Anatomy Season 21 Episode 6.
Sophia Bush has a bomb to drop
Did I hear you correctly?
“We started our marriage,” Dr. Cass Beckman says in a promo for the next episode.
This is our first look at Sofia Busch’s new character on Grey’s Anatomy , and boy, are we impressed.
We’ve known for weeks that there were some issues in Teddy and Owen’s marriage.
This seems to come down to everyday things.
Two kids, a demanding career, and an impossible schedule are enough to bring any marriage to its knees.
Teddy and Owen hope their marriage can survive
But Teddy and Owen seemed committed to making things work a certain way.
For most of the married couples on Grey’s Anatomy, relationship repair often involves weeks in a therapist’s office.
Somehow, that doesn’t seem to be the direction the two are headed.
We haven’t been formally introduced to Dr. Beckman (Busch), but we know she’s a surgeon at Seattle Presbyterian Hospital.
We also know that she was married to a heart surgeon at Gray Sloan Hospital named David Beckman.
And, now we know they were swingers. Or polyamory. Or something.
That’s the beauty of trailers, isn’t it?
It doesn’t give us enough information about these new characters to determine how they identify, but non-monogamy plays a role in their relationships.
Of course, all the promos reveal is Beckman telling Teddy this detail.
There’s no word on how Teddy (or Owen) took the offer, or whether they’ll explore non-monogamy as an option for themselves.
Although, Teddy has explored this with Koracik, it’s something we should forgive and forget.
There are several ways to achieve this.
Ultraman and Hunter can start their marriage thinking it’s a good fit for them, and then happily move on to the freedom of seeing other people.
They could give it a try and then decide it’s not for them and they don’t want to risk it affecting their relationship.
Or they can dismiss the idea entirely, which could lead to a lifetime of “what ifs,” or lack of confidence in their decision to remain monogamous.
Whatever they decide, the powers that be know what they are doing with this promotion.
Teasing such an explosive storyline — especially ahead of a two-week hiatus — is sure to get fans talking.
Since Sophia Busch’s casting has become an exciting topic surrounding the show, we can’t stop thinking about the implications.
It’s clear that the promo was just to attract attention and didn’t create any significant significance.
This isn’t the first time.
In fact, this is not the first time in the past week.
The trailer for Grey’s Anatomy Season 22 Episode 5 mentions a possible helicopter crash, but we know how it ends.
After the rather disappointing and anticlimactic events of last week, let’s hope there’s more excitement surrounding Sophia Bush’s inauguration moment.
Given the imminent departures of Jake Borelli and Midori Francis, there are several big storylines that could be wrapping up soon.
Where are Levi and Mika?
Levi (Borelli) discussed with Dr. Beltran possible PEDs research opportunities in Texas that could open up a logical outlet.
His romance with Gray Sloan’s new Reverend James complicates the situation, but the show has never shied away from complexity before.
Meanwhile, Mika (Frances) is undergoing treatment for her sister’s terminal cancer.
There’s no word yet on how she will be written, but it’s safe to assume it will be about Chloe.
Since Meredith now lives in Boston, the writers could easily send Micah and Chloe to the East Coast for some kind of clinical trial.
Maybe Meredith has influence, or maybe Nick is doing some new and innovative transplant surgery for Chloe’s type of cancer.
I’m not a doctor, so I don’t know how reasonable these things are.
But it would be cool to see these characters written in a way that leaves the door open for them to return in the future.
(Did you hear that, Shonda Rhimes? Please don’t kill them!)
Our brief recap of the episode also revealed that Levi was given running responsibilities on a new trauma patient.
He may not be an attending physician yet, but Bailey awarded him the Dark Blue Medal of Honor for his ability to handle cases.
We’ve seen this before in previous lessons, but it’s been a while.
I believe that as long as Levi stays focused, he can make a great save.
We still have to wait for the new episode, but it’s sure to be exciting.
If there’s one thing I know about Grey’s Anatomy, it’s that anything is possible on this show.
As I said before, the writers of Grey’s Anatomy have nothing to lose at this point. We should be prepared for almost anything.
What are your expectations for the new plot?
