Bruce Springsteen and John Legend once again support Kamala Harris as the two critically acclaimed artists attended the event in Philadelphia on Sunday (October 28) Democratic candidate rally.
Just one day after Donald Trump held a much-criticized rally at New York’s Madison Square Garden on Saturday (October 27), the tone of the Democratic rally shifted away from division and rhetoric and focused instead on unity.
In addition to speeches from Philadelphia Mayor Cheryl Parker, Pennsylvania Senator Bob Casey and former President Barack Obama, the event at Temple University’s Leaculas Center also featured performances by Legend and Springsteen of several songs.
Legend’s performance included four songs, including “Ordinary People,” “Glory,” a cover of Harold Melbin & The Blue Notes’ “Wake Up Everybody,” and Legend’s own version of Sam Cooke’s “A Change Is Gonna Come.”
“We are now faced with a once-in-a-lifetime, once-in-a-generation opportunity,” Legend told the crowd. “The opportunity to choose better, bolder, brighter things, to choose progress and healing.”
Three of Springsteen’s own acoustic songs followed, opening with a rendition of his 1978 single “The Promised Land” and featuring a version of 2001’s “Land of Hope and Dreams.” Sting ended his set with “Dancing in the Dark,” which peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1984 and became the highest-charting song of his career.
Before performing the latter, Sting singled out “Legend”, noting that he “performed the most beautiful version of that song I’ve ever heard.”
“I know people see things differently, but this election is about a group of people who want to fundamentally destroy our American way of life,” Sting told those attending the rally. “Donald Trump doesn’t understand. This country, its history, and what it really means to be American.”
Sting’s appearance at the Philadelphia rally comes just days after he appeared at a Harris rally in Georgia, where he told supporters that while Harris was “running for the 47th president of the United States, Donald Trump is running for the tyrant of America.” “.
