The latest episode of The Big Bang Theory series is a huge win.
Georgie and Mandy’s First Marriage has just received a full-season order from CBS, which means the latest spinoff will be on our screens throughout May.
CBS hasn’t told us exactly how many episodes they’ve approved yet, but their enthusiasm for the show is great news.
George and Mandy’s success isn’t guaranteed, but it’s a huge one
CBS took a risk with Georgie and Mandy’s First Marriage that I’m not sure will pay off.
While The Big Bang Theory and Young Sheldon are both huge hits online, it’s unclear how much Sheldon Cooper has to do with it.
Young Sheldon is a prequel about the socially awkward genius. It details his childhood in Texas and his interactions with his family who love him but don’t understand him, which is a big reason why the show is so successful.
However, “George and Mandy’s First Marriage” is the first episode in the series to not feature Sheldon at all, as Sheldon left for Caltech in the “Young Sheldon” finale. I love Sheldon, so I’m not sure how interesting the show would be without him.
If everyone else feels the way I do, “Georgie and Mandy’s First Marriage” will be the first “Big Bang Theory” spinoff to fail because people will turn it off so quickly. But I was wrong, and despite a rocky start to the premiere, the show is funny, heartfelt, and well worth watching.
The show has also been a huge success, with 10.6 million viewers watching the premiere across platforms, and the show’s online ratings are up 72% from the premiere of the final season of “Young Sheldon.”
CBS’s enthusiastic response is good news for the future of George and Mandy’s first marriage
Much of Young Sheldon’s seventh season is a backdoor pilot for Georgie and Mandy’s first marriage.
It was annoying, but it paid off because it got everyone really excited about the spinoff.
The only thing missing so far is some news about what happened to Meemaw’s boyfriend Dale, but now that we have a full season order, I’m hoping they can address that.
Still, ratings success doesn’t always guarantee a network’s ability to continue airing a show.
CBS has canceled several of its most popular shows for 2024, and the cancellation of Blue Bloods broke the hearts of many.
However, Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage received a glowing response from CBS that makes me feel like it’s safe for a long time to come:

That enthusiasm from CBS could mean it gets an early renewal like Matlock , now that it’s overcome its first hurdle and received a full-season order.
The full-season order also means the show will have plenty of time to establish and explore the family dynamics of Georgie and Mandy’s first marriage.
We know the couple will eventually divorce, but with a full season — and hopefully more to come — the writers don’t have to rush the story of how their marriage fell apart and can continue to lay the groundwork for Georgie and Mandy’s eventual breakup seeds while expressing heartfelt emotions.
