Oh my gosh, there are some shady people in the Serpent’s Den in Matlock Season 1 Episode 4. .
In this week’s case, the show pulls off a slam dunk at the end of every episode. However, we live in a fool’s paradise, thinking that there will be a happy ending until the end of time.
Thanks to this hour of Matlock, many viewers will likely never hear the words “Texas two-step” the same again.
Workplace love can get tough in a viper’s den
The case revolves around a widower who sued his building over claims that Legionnaires’ bacteria caused the wrongful death of his late wife. If you’ve read spoilers for Matlock Season 1 Episode 4, then this isn’t news to you.
What no one expected, however, was that the company represented both sides, which caused problems for nearly every character, especially Olympia and Ilya.
Although Olympia insisted that she and Ilya could resume a normal working relationship, his hostility was evident.
Considering how cruel his actions were, even for a lawyer, I agree with Olympia that Elijah was trying to hurt her through her client. He knows he’s a mature adult, right?
If Elijah isn’t careful, he may find that his chances with Olympia are all but gone because of Julian. Have you noticed he’s getting cuter and cuter on Olympia?
In Matlock Season 1 Episode 3, Julian pays Olympia to have Shay, the company’s very expensive jury consultant, join her team. Julian never even told Olympia that he had footed the bill.
As sweet as it all is, if all the lawyers paid attention, maybe the widower would have had a truly happy ending.
In Matlock, being a lawyer seems great until you see how easily the law can be manipulated
The poor man lost his wife and then had to struggle to get justice for her death. Being a lawyer seems great until you see how easily the law can be manipulated.
The widower won the trial and his building, as well as all buildings owned by the defendant, were up to code and had toxic black mold removed.
That’s all well and good, but he still hasn’t gotten a penny from the case. While some may think a win is enough, the late wife’s medical bills are an issue.
The woman did not drop dead. She has been in pain for a long time and has likely racked up a pile of medical bills. The widower loses his wife, and all he gets is a dead win and possible debt.
As far as the case goes, this one was a failure. However, as spoilers mention, the real reason for the case selection seems to have something to do with Marty.
In this episode, we see how Marty views the widower’s need for justice for his wife.
It’s a noble cause indeed, but the situation ultimately helps Marty realize that “whatever it takes” doesn’t mean losing his soul in the process.
“I’m sorry, I’m going to yell at someone.”
When it comes to failure, both Madeline and Edwin are a little bit off. Kathy Bates and Sam Anderson do an excellent job portraying the bickering of a real married couple.
Does anyone else feel like they’re watching their parents argue loudly? Even though I was an adult, I was really nervous, like a kid.
It’s hard to choose a side in this debate. Cathy is right that Edwin agreed to the plan and should support her.
I understand where Edwin is coming from, though. Alfie’s life has changed dramatically and he needs stability. He’s just a kid and doesn’t know what he needs like his grandparents did.
The only thing that was really clear was that Marty definitely needed help. However, she may have found all the help she needed in the one and only Mrs. B.
I’ve been dying to see Patricia Belcher’s (“The Rookie”) character return, and boy, did she get back into action. Every time Mrs. B appears on screen, her presence is so palpable.
Of course, Marty had to lie about her late dog Biscuit, who never existed, but it was all in the pursuit of justice—so it didn’t matter.
Fingers crossed, we’ll see more of Mrs. B and her iconic lines like “I’m sorry. I’m going to curse. Can we give this woman a spin-off? She’s hysterical.”
Matlock goes a little too far with Sarah’s added depth
Matlock Season 1 Episode 4 featured extensive coverage of the characters. We finally get the real backstories of the other members of the Trio.
Let’s give Sarah a round of applause. She was slowly but surely removing the rod that was firmly planted in her back.
Some of you have been vocal about her passion, and I agree. Marty agreed, eventually stating this to Sarah before asking her not to stand too close.
However, I must condemn Matlock for her blatant and obvious abandonment of Sarah’s sexuality.
At the end of the episode, Billy (David Del Rio) introduces Sarah to his girlfriend Claudia and then tells Claudia that if she had a good, qualified friend , she should keep her away from Sarah.
Sure, it’s a cute moment that might mean Sarah and Billy won’t end up together, but why do we need to know that?
I don’t care if she likes girls or boys. What does this have to do with her character and character? The show seems to be trying to tie Sarah’s intensity to her sexuality.
Of course, I might be nitpicking, so if anyone thinks it’s appropriate to point out that Sarah likes girls, even though it has nothing to do with the story, please tell me what I’m missing in the comments.
Even in a supporting role, Bridges brings his charisma and talent to every scene he’s in
Beyond all the drama at home and in the workplace, the real danger may just rear its ugly head.
For the record, I’ve been suspicious of Superior since the “Matlock” Season 1 premiere review. My suspicions were almost confirmed.
Even if Marty didn’t confirm that Senior’s signature was the one she was looking for, the “Texas Two-Step” trick he used on the case was a dirty, rotten move. He is an excellent lawyer.
You don’t get Beau Bridges to do something important without giving him a household name like that. Even in a supporting role, Bridges brings his charisma and talent to every scene.
So, of course, he’s the guy Marty is after. But we are still far from the finish line. Marty has found the prime suspect, but now she needs evidence to catch that big fish.
Maybe Madeleine can cozy up to Senior and use some of her feminine wiles. We already know Marty is still going.
The widower accosted his wife after the case of her unnatural death was concluded. At least we know he had good taste, and I think the late Lady would have liked Kathy Bates.
Marty is loaded and ready to take down her target. She had him aimed and ready to fire. Senior is officially on borrowed time, especially now that Olympia and Marty are allies.
Just thinking about it makes people shudder. I hope CBS keeps Matlock until Kathy Bates says enough is enough.
Is Senior high on your list of suspects?
Do you think Edwin will become more involved in Marty’s plan to give their grandson a more normal life?
