It’s incredible that it’s been twenty years since JC Chasez released his first solo album. Schizophrenia –his first and only solo attempt since *NSYNC. But after that period—and during which time Chasez explored a variety of creative avenues, from Judgment America’s Best Dance Company Chasez recently reunited with his former bandmates to write two songs and deliver an unexpected album.
Playing with fire is a concept album based on Mary Shelley’s musical Frankensteinwhich Chas co-wrote with longtime collaborator Jimmy Haley, the singer stopped by Billboard News to discuss the project and how it pushed his creativity.
“We knew we wanted to write a musical, but we just didn’t know how,” Chas said of the project’s seeds. “[Jimmy and I] From pop music – We create different styles of pop music, but essentially our strength lies in pop music. [But] We are more mature, we have more ideas than just typical pop songs, and it gives us the opportunity to express these ideas – to do something longer than three minutes, more focused but that makes us dream in a different way “.
An avid theater fan, Chasese admits, “If I’m lucky, I get to go to a show every night,” he says jesus christ superstar is their biggest inspiration Playing with fire. “They started as a concept album, and that’s what inspired us to release it as an album in the first place. He also unveiled two songs from his reunion with *NSYNC, “Better Place” (via Trolls unite) and Justin Timberlake’s “Paradise” everything i thought i was. “We’re all good friends and we talk all the time,” Chas said. “The conversation has become more open – now I’m focusing on Playing with fireJustin is on tour and Joey is about to start with juliet [on Broadway]but we have been talking about that anything is possible in the future. It always has to be for the right reason.
Speaking about a potential reunion, he talked about celebrating the 25th anniversary of his debut album with former Mouseketeer member Christina Aguilera and the possibility that they might one day do a duet: “If that’s the case The right thing and it’s organic and I would be happy to sing with her any time,” he enthuses.
