We’re deep into production on a full third season of Fire Nation and recovering from the failure of season two.
This Fire Nation Season 3 Episode 3 review details my thoughts on what happened in this episode.
Trust me, there is a lot to discuss!
So, let’s get back to business and talk about Chaos Magic in Fire Nation Season 3 Episode 3, starting with Baldur joining the cult.
Sharon hit the nail on the head when she compared working at the fire department to a cult. Both environments consume every moment of one’s life; participating makes you rush, but not everyone understands your desire to join.
For most of us, it’s difficult to consider working in a job where you risk losing your life every day, let alone having someone else’s life depend on you.
Witness the guilt Gabriella feels over the mistake of nearly killing her patient by giving her a life-saving drug that was nearly fatal. Within five seconds of Bode entering the room, she was pouring her heart out.
However, if Bode feels bad about his role in this situation, he doesn’t show it.
He doesn’t seem to care that he nearly kills a man through negligence and then steals the man’s medical alert necklace to cover up their mistake. Dude, leaving that necklace in your locker was a stupid move.
Bode’s behavior angered Jack. But I get it. Bode enjoys playing the hero, but he doesn’t like being told his actions are wrong.
Show of hands: Who likes seeing Jack being the alpha male when Bode is trying to act like his behavior is no big deal? (Fans laugh at themselves)
We think Eve has to find some alpha in her, too, because it looks like the Three Rock crew will give Manny a hard time since he’s a prisoner and not a boss.
I admit, I watched this scene twice. “Three Rocks” makes “Fire Country” stand out from all other fire acts. It just so happened that two of my three characters were Manny and Eve, so they took me to camp and left me there.
Does anyone else prefer to focus more on Sanyan and its residents?
Visiting the fire training camp was fun, so I wasn’t too offended that we didn’t stay at the camp the entire episode. School, camp, bullies, rule breakers – boy, are we childhood again?
Even with three strikes, your rules in fire drills are nostalgic. Then again, the World Series just ended after a crazy five games, so maybe I had baseball on my mind.
Jack is smart enough to pair Bode and Audrey for fire training. Not because they were all blond, ex-con trainees, but because of their competitive drive.
It’s interesting to hear that this isn’t Audrey James’ first time as a fire cadet.
This is her third try, which may explain why she is so committed to the limited number of spots in the training program.
Bode wants to be a firefighter and strives for the adrenaline rush, while James is on a mission to redeem himself. She wanted to replace the shame of being a prisoner with the pride of being a firefighter.
If we want to know why Bode has rights issues, we have to look at Grandpa Silver Fox Walter Leon.
He was an old-school firefighter, when you would do anything for a family, regardless of legality or moral compass. He thought Bode should use his status as a Leone to make money.
I’m glad to see Bode trying to get through training in his own right.
His family connections had allowed him to advance to the second phase of training without completing the first, ahead of other applicants who had waited longer.
But as Bode and James use insider knowledge to stage a last-second dummy rescue, Jack’s skeptical mind notices something strange.
Rude.
Was it alcohol or Leon’s entitlement that caused Pope Leon to yell at Jack as he tried to do his job and question the cadets? Did he have the right to tell Bode where to find the dummy in the first place?
I said no. Just because he’s Leon doesn’t mean he should cheat.
However, I don’t think his behavior warranted the harsh punishment Jack would give him. A three-strike offense? Exit training now?
This is especially true since Bertie did not cheat. He tells James the message his grandfather gave him. She flew into the fire, leaving Baldur behind her.
Damn it, Bode’s hero complex is here again.
I’ve said it many times, we see huge nepotism in the Fire Nation, and we’re not the only ones. Bode tries to rationalize James, calling him Baby Nibo and saying that firefighters breed firefighters.
Tradition followers are golden nuggets.
There are a few examples of legacies; Bode and Gabriella were both nuggets. James calls Border a “24k nug.” Okay, Bruno Mars.
Vince is a gold nugget too.
Maybe Eve and Jake can be classified as well, since they are unofficial Leones and consider Vince and Sharon pseudo-parents.
Will Jack be harsher on Bode for overcompensating his family’s ship? Or is he lashing out at Bode and Garbus for putting him in a bad spot with the Necklace lore?
James may not be a legend in the firefighting community, but her experience in a prison camp corrected her moral compass. We get a deeper look into her past, and gosh, she and Bode have a lot in common.
She takes responsibility, which reverses Jack’s decision about Bode’s future. Now, he and James both have two strikes. But Jack leaves it to Jill to decide if Bode completes the three strikes, or if he can continue his fire training.
When the young nanny comes in needing firefighting advice, Gabriella is trapped in Station 42, fated to do so, and in need of an unbiased ear to admit her guilt.
This situation helped Gabriella decide to tell the truth about the necklace.
Who agrees with Jack’s decision to base Bode’s future in fire training on the patient’s reaction to Bode and Gabe’s confession?
I think this is the right decision.
Jill didn’t hold Gabriella and Bode accountable for their negligence, and Jack let the issue go without referring it to command. Bode returned to training camp.
But how will this affect Jack’s strained friendships with Bode and Gabriella?
Is anyone else super confused about what’s going on with Bodelia’s relationship? I mean, except for Bode and Gabriella.
Just when we thought the couple was finally testing the waters — after all, isn’t that why Gabriella didn’t marry Diego? —Gabriella slammed on the brakes again.
At least this time she had a good reason.
Manny compared his marriage to Gabe’s mom and Bode and Gabriella’s relationship in Fire Nation Season 3 Episode 2 when he begged Sharon and Vince to let the couple separate.
Gabriella now seems to be making the same connection, but she’s unwilling to follow in her parents’ footsteps. yeah!
Bode claimed he was probably bored. But once you’re addicted, you’re addicted forever.
Only now, saves are his poison. As Gabriella points out, their on-again, off-again relationship was also tumultuous, and it was nothing more than risk-taking and rule-breaking.
You can hate me if you want, but I support the hook-up between these two ex-cons, not the relationship of Beaudra trying to get out of prison.
Tell me if you understand the chemistry between 24k and Jamesy. ah. Now, we need to get Bode on board.
Can anyone tell me what this episode is about with the daddy issues? Poor Vince was fighting with his dad. Gabriella was angry with her, and Genevieve was angry with Jack and her biological father, Rick.
At least Vince and Bode are reconciled now.
As if the relationship between Vince and Walt wasn’t tense enough, a kitchen fire and Walt’s angry outbursts accelerated the slow burn into hell. Could the accident be a sign of something more serious going wrong with Walt’s health?
We saw Vince with a guitar in his hand during the campaign fire in Fire Nation Season 2 Episode 9. to learn more about his musical talent.
Let’s hear your thoughts on Vince and Sharon becoming entrepreneurs.
Who thought it was a good idea to keep Smokey’s and reopen it? I totally agree. However, this feels a bit like it was ripped off the Chicago Fire book.
Molly’s, anyone?
Despite the similarities, I’m rooting for them to own this place. They need to devote their time and energy to things other than putting out fires and raising their adult sons.
I nearly jumped out of my chair when I realized we were about to see more of Eve’s past. mentally. My body is too tired. But it’s still important!
I watch a lot of TV, so it’s possible it’s just getting lost in the background – please correct me if so! — but I don’t remember hearing much about Eve’s family or their ranch. But Fire Nation Season 3 seems to be very focused on that.
It looks like Eve is going home.
Fire plus ranch – now this is a spin-off idea I might support. Alas, that’s not the theme of Fire Nation’s two upcoming spin-offs, Sheriff State and Fire Nation Surf.
One also wonders if Sharon was interfering by convincing Eve to talk to her family about using the ranch for fire department controlled burns?
It is revealed later in the episode that Eve has not spoken to her family in six years. Wow. I never can. Will her personal insights make Manny change his mind and add Gabriella to his camp visitor list?
Overall, everything is shaping up to be an exciting and well-paced third season. Considering Fire Nation Season 2’s less serious flaws, it couldn’t have come at a better time.
Let’s take a look at Fire Nation Fever.
