Netflix has officially revealed how much it spent to acquire Ben Affleck’s artificial intelligence company, confirming that the streaming giant paid approximately $587m in cash for InterPositive. The figure was disclosed in a securities filing submitted to the US Securities and Exchange Commission, ending months of speculation surrounding one of Hollywood’s most closely watched technology deals.
The acquisition was first announced in March 2026, although the financial terms were not disclosed publicly at the time. The latest filing confirms the transaction was completed as a business combination with a total purchase price of roughly $587m, making it one of Netflix’s biggest investments in production technology.
InterPositive was founded by Affleck in 2022 with a focus on developing artificial intelligence tools designed to assist filmmakers throughout the production process. Rather than replacing creative professionals, the company aimed to improve visual effects workflows while preserving the artistic decisions made by writers, directors, cinematographers and editors.
Following the acquisition announcement earlier this year, Affleck explained that his goal had always been to protect human creativity while embracing technological innovation. He said filmmaking has continually evolved through advances such as digital cameras, motion capture and virtual production, adding that artificial intelligence should become another tool that supports artists rather than replacing them.
According to Affleck, InterPositive developed proprietary datasets captured on controlled soundstages to train models capable of understanding visual continuity and cinematic language. The technology was designed to solve production challenges including missing shots, background replacements and lighting inconsistencies while maintaining editorial consistency.
The disclosure comes shortly after Netflix confirmed that generative artificial intelligence has already been incorporated into roughly 300 productions across its catalogue during 2026. Company executives said the technology has primarily been used during post production, although artificial intelligence now assists projects from concept development and pre visualisation through to final delivery.
Netflix co chief executive Ted Sarandos recently highlighted The American Experiment as an example of the technology’s capabilities. He said the documentary series included 17 minutes of AI enhanced footage that expanded battle scenes and other complex sequences. According to Sarandos, those scenes were completed twice as fast and at half the cost of previous production methods while maintaining the desired creative quality.
Sarandos stressed that Netflix has no intention of replacing filmmakers with artificial intelligence. Instead, he described AI as a creative tool capable of helping directors and production teams realise ideas that might otherwise prove too expensive or technically difficult to achieve.
The InterPositive acquisition reflects Netflix’s broader strategy of integrating artificial intelligence throughout its business. Beyond production, the company has also introduced AI driven features for content discovery and advertising while continuing to invest heavily in technology designed to improve efficiency without compromising storytelling.
For Affleck, the deal also represents an unusual expansion beyond acting, directing and producing into entertainment technology. Although he now serves as a senior adviser following the acquisition, his stated mission remains centred on ensuring filmmakers retain creative control while benefiting from faster and more sophisticated production tools.
