The Weeknd and Anitta’s collaboration “São Paulo” topped this week’s new music polls, showcasing a variety of genres.
In a poll released on Friday (November 1) advertising billboardfans voted the superstar collaboration their favorite new album, with “São Paulo” receiving nearly 66% of the votes. This impressive lead puts it ahead of Shawn Mendes (“Heart of Gold”), “The Cure” (Song of the Lost World), Ethel Kane (Punishment) and Megan Mulroney (Blue Christmas…ugh)wait.
The exciting song will appear on The Weeknd’s upcoming album, Hurry up tomorrow. A release date for the project has yet to be announced. The duo debuted “São Paulo” on September 7 at a special one-night event at Estádio MorumBIS in São Paulo, which was live-streamed for fans.
“We knew this was too special to just perform on stage. We saw huge potential in the song and found a rhythm that was the heart of the show,” The Weeknd previously said Brazilian billboard.
In the music video for “Saint Paul,” Anitta delivers a surreal visual with her exaggerated bulge, which appears to be singing The Weeknd’s part, and lips peeking out from her belly button. The weird clip ended with the word “Phantasm,” leaving fans speculating if it had something to do with the album or song title.
In addition to “São Paulo,” The Weeknd has released two more songs Hurry up tomorrow: Dancing in the Flames and Timeless, starring Playboi Carti. “Dancing in the Flames” peaked at No. 14 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, while “Timeless” peaked at No. 3.
Shawn Mendes’ Heart of Gold trailed significantly in this week’s polls, receiving nearly 30% of the vote. The song was written in memory of a childhood friend who passed away from a drug overdose.
