The LEGO Group and Universal Pictures team up to create three new live-action LEGO movies from directors Jack Kasdan (Jumanji franchise, bad teacher), Patty Jenkins (wonder woman) and Joe Cornish (attack block).
Plot details for the three untitled films have yet to be revealed, but all three will be produced by The LEGO Group’s Jill Wilfert and Ryan Christian.
Kasdan will direct Andrew Mogle and Jarrad Paul (D train, grinder). This project is based on original ideas and previous drafts by Matt Mider and Kevin Burrows (pickup truck, animal friends). Kasdan will also produce the film under the Detective Agency banner with Melvin Mar.
Jenkins will direct from a script she co-wrote Jeff Jonesregrouped after they co-wrote Wonder Woman 1984 (With Dave Callaham). Jenkins will produce the film through her company Wicious Pictures.
Cornwall will rewrite the director’s third film. Heather Anne Campbell (rick and morty, one punch man) wrote a previous draft of the script based on treatment by Simon Rich (man looking for woman, miracle worker).
Universal’s Executive Vice President of Production Development Matt Reilly and Director of Production Development Jacqueline Garell will oversee these projects for the studio.
The three untitled films will be produced under Universal and LEGO’s ongoing partnership, which began more than a decade ago with the LEGO Jurassic World line and video games (which spawned multiple TV projects).
The LEGO brand began expanding into feature films in 2014 The Lego Movie, The series has grown into a $1 billion grossing franchise, including follow-up titles The Lego Batman Movie, The Lego Ninjago Movieand The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part.
