Host Jimmy Kimmel prefaced the Fleetwood Mac frontwoman’s performance on Monday’s (November 4) show, calling the song ” A feminist anthem,” Nicks’ electrifying performance was accompanied by thunderous visuals.
“I wrote this song a few months after Roe v. Wade was overturned,” Nicks wrote in an Instagram post following the song’s release. “It seemed like overnight people were saying ‘What can we do as a collective force about this…’ For me, it was writing a song.”
She continued: “It took a while because I was on the road. Then one morning I was watching the news on TV and a newscaster said something that felt like he was speaking to me – explaining Roe v. What it meant to lose the Wade case. I wrote this song the next morning and recorded it that night, which was September 6, 2022. I often said to myself, “This is probably what I did. Since its release, “The Lighthouse” has ranked second on the rock digital song sales chart and was voted Favorite New Music on September 29.
