The wait is finally over. Small Town Murders returns next Tuesday (November 12) with a new thrilling murder mystery.
Small Town Season 1 Episode 6 is different from previous episodes in that it does not follow the source material. Still, based on the weekly promos and spoiler photos, it looks to be an exciting case.
It feels like an old-school procedural involving a violent suspect and the suspect’s psychiatrist.
Small Town Murders Season 1 Episode 6 Spoilers Tease Evil Sociopath Coming to Gibsons
It happens in many programs. A murderer escapes from prison. But most killers aren’t as charming as Sean Sloan when he tries to hitchhike to Gibsons.
Judging by the driver’s reaction, I wondered if that man was related to one of the victims Shane killed.
He seemed to recognize Shane, but Shane shrugged. Of course, this could also put the driver on Sean’s blacklist.
Judging from the weekly publicity, it looks like he’s going to murder anyone who gets in his way.
We’re not sure who his real target is in Gibsons. Is he another man Carl arrested years ago, or does he know someone else he wants to torture?
It appears there was another target besides the psychiatrist, as her initial idea was to alert the police.
Involving the suspect’s psychiatrist is an interesting twist
I can’t remember the last time a psychiatrist was involved in a procedural case involving a sociopath. Dr. Wong’s involvement may have been in the earlier days of Law & Order: SVU.
That’s why I’m so excited about this case. We need more psychiatrists to help suspects and victims. This will help viewers understand the suspect’s motivations and whether they can be reformed.
This case is even more interesting because Dr. Elizabeth Lewis (Paula Patton) believes Sean Sloan is purely evil. She knows this because she diagnosed him as a sociopath.
Sean doesn’t care who he hurts, shows no remorse for his past crimes, and despises the way Dr. Lewis analyzes him. However, like many sociopaths, he seems charming at first, which becomes annoying.
He had a list of people he wanted to hurt and she was at the top of his list after receiving threatening text messages. She needs Carl’s help before Sean hurts her and the other Gibson residents.
Carl doesn’t often work with other people, but he may have to if he wants to understand the sociopath’s mindset.
Hopefully Carl and Dr. Lewis can find Shane before he murders someone else. This will be an exciting investigation racing against time.
Having one of Canada’s best stuntmen ensures the fight scenes
After seeing the weekly promos and spoiler photos, it’s clear that sociopath Sean Sloan (Kenan Tracy) wants to take down Gibson’s many men.
The episode features guest appearances from a number of Canadian stars, including stunt performer Douglas Chapman. He has done stunts in TV shows like “Smallville” and in movies like “Guardians.”
One of the spoiler photos shows Chapman being tied up and tortured. We’re not sure which character he’s performing the stunts for, but the scenes should be exciting.
If they hired stuntmen, they must have been nervous. He could even replace Carl, as the promos hinted at Carl being shot.
An investigation leads to unexpected consequences
I love the Gibson Police Department and their teamwork, but it seems like too often people get hurt during investigations, especially when dealing with the bad guys.
Sid was attacked in Small Town Season 1 Episode 2, and Karl was trapped in a fire in Small Town Season 1 Episode 3.
The two jumped to save people first, and then checked the consequences. I hope I’m wrong, but I’m worried this sociopath is out to get Carl.
Hopefully the team has a proper replacement in place and he won’t be seriously injured.
What’s the status of Carl and Cassandra’s relationship?
Small Town Murders Season 1 Episode 5 ends with Cassandra needing space after being kidnapped by Carl’s old enemy.
As mentioned before, the series often skips important moments in the pair’s relationship. However, since Cassandra looked so distraught when Carl was attacked in the promo, I suspect their issues haven’t been resolved.
She may be worried that if the sociopath succeeds in hurting Carl, she won’t get a chance to tell him how much she cares.
Cassandra might understand how Carl felt when he was kidnapped, feeling like he almost lost her.
This exciting arc develops them as characters and deepens their relationship. Cassandra is still adjusting to dating a police officer and a man who often jumps into danger to save people.
We assume Carl will survive, as the series won’t be killing off one of its protagonists.
Over to you, TV fanatics.
