How do you make an already attractive cast like the stars of “NCIS: Origins” shine even brighter? Dress them up in formal attire and send them off for a night on the town.
This is what “Invisible” offers viewers in its promotional video. Most importantly, however, is the palpable attention Agent Lara Dominguez receives.
Ever since NCIS: Origins began airing, fans have been eagerly anticipating when Lala and Gibbs’ stories would intertwine. Her character isn’t developed like the others either.
Hopefully, halfway through the premiere season of NCIS: Origins, the writers will be able to connect the dots and explain that this is “her story,” too. I can still hear Mark Harmon’s voice.
The long-awaited NCIS: Origins finally puts the spotlight on special agent Lala
Agent Lala has been popping up and appearing in every episode of NCIS: Origins since its first season premiere. We know she’s smart, talented, and kind-hearted, although Franks initially thinks she’s trying to please Gibbs.
However, the show has yet to establish that her character is crucial to Gibbs’ journey. It would be fine if she was just another supporting character, but the show makes her a key part of the plot.
It all comes down to the writers and producers, as Mariel Molino (“Promised Land”) has been excellent as Lara. Wait until you see how incredible she looks in that dress. Having your legs cut open while holding a gun is everything.
It gave Angelina Jolie her performance in Mr. and Mrs. Smith in the best possible way. I think Franks knew what he was doing.
At the start of the promo, the veteran agent and team leader can be heard telling La La that she will be Gibbs’ “arm candy” tonight. That’s a little sexist, but gosh, he’s not wrong.
Does Franks have a trick up his sleeve, or is he just looking for the easiest solution?
I thought about the pairings in this particular mission. Could Franks want to play matchmaker? Hear me out, because it’s not the craziest thing.
As we saw in the chaotic fifth episode of NCIS: Origins’ first season, Franks may be too focused on his emotions. I wouldn’t put it past him to test the water temperature with Gibbs.
The history between Gibbs and Franks is rooted in a deep brotherly love and mentorship. We know that Franks was particularly interested in certain cases that he considered unsolved.
So, he may be trying to speed up Gibbs’ recovery by pushing him back into the dating world. However, choosing someone for Gibbs in the workplace is a terrible, very Frank-esque idea.
He may also have chosen Lala because she was the closest woman to him nearby. You never really know Franks (Kyle Schmid). Regardless, he made a good call.
At the very least, the series is doing what many fans were hoping for: putting the spotlight on someone other than Gibbs.
Don’t get me wrong – the incredibly talented Austin Stowell brings this character to life with so much depth and emotion. However, this is the “origin” of the plural form. Step aside, handsome man.
‘NCIS: Origins’ sheds enough male tears between Gibbs and Franks
The official synopsis for NCIS: Origins Season 1, Episode 6 reads: “Gibbs goes undercover with Lala for the first time as the National Intelligence Agency investigates the case of a dead Navy sailor who may have Top secret intelligence that poses a threat to national security is being shared.
“Additionally, Lara struggled with her position on the team and unexpected developments in her personal life.”
Honestly, after a truly emotionally intense episode like NCIS: Origins Season 1 Episode 4, the description of “Stealth” sounds like a casual work day at the National Intelligence Service.
Between the drama and the formal attire, the series may be trying to add a little fun to the show. This will be a welcome change of pace.
So far, NCIS: Origins has been one emotional meltdown after another. Enough male tears have been shed between Gibbs and Franks.
Now is a great time to make your characters and your audience laugh. A little levity goes a long way.
The best part of the “Invisible” description is that it confirms that we’re going to get more Lara than we have in the past five episodes.
Ten Bucks said she and Gibbs had moments where they smiled at each other while the rest of the world faded away. I’m not angry either.
It all depends on how NCIS: Origins chooses to portray the history that NCIS has already told
God knew Gibbs needed every reason he could find to smile. As we know from NCIS , his journey won’t be easy.
In NCIS: Origins Season 1 Episode 5, we learned that Gibbs did indeed walk into enemy territory and end his own life after learning that his wife and daughter had been killed.
It’s a very important moment for Gibbs and it says a lot about who he is as a person and how broken this incident has left him. Since then, however, he has made incredible progress in his recovery.
Still, I agree with those who say Gibbs shouldn’t be on the battlefield yet. I know he’s the kind of guy who can’t sit at a desk, but that’s no excuse for being a liability.
If Lara hadn’t stopped Gibbs in “Last Rites,” he might have shot the Hispanic man in the truck that Lara was trying to send away. Then again, maybe there was only one thing that could right Gibbs’ mistake.
We all know what happens next. Gibbs (Austin Stowell) is out to track down his family’s murderer and kill him. But what happens before that?
That’s the mission at hand in NCIS: Origins. Will the show depict the events that followed as they tell it?
Or is history about to be rewritten by new information not previously mentioned? NCIS: Origins has a lot of moving parts in its favor.
However, one bad plot point or character arc can bog down an entire series. But at its core, “NCIS: Origins” is a drama about hope.
It’s about being able to move on with life even after the worst has happened to you. It’s about being a survivor. Sometimes, all you need is a spark of hope.
