Snoop Dogg and his wife Shante Broadus were honored with the Black Love Award at the 2024 Give Her FlowHERS Awards.
The legendary hip-hop artist and his wife accepted the award at Femme it Forward’s third annual gala on Friday (November 8) at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles.
In his acceptance speech, Snoop reflected on the significance of the award. “It’s beautiful because throughout my career I’ve been nominated and won a lot of awards, but there’s nothing like an award to put you back on stage and let people know that’s why you’re so successful,” according to Reports, the rapper stood next to Shante and shared hollywood reporter.
He continued, “I’ve been nominated for 20 Grammys and never won one, but here I am, and this feels better than one. For the couples here tonight, it’s always going to be great. It’s going to be hard, but if it’s true love and it’s meant to be, it’s always good news. That’s true love.
The 2024 Give Her FlowHERS Awards, hosted by Saweetie, also recognized other musical artists including Jill Scott, Chloe Bailey, Halle Bailey, GloRilla, Doechii, Lady London and Nija.
Saweetie, who also received the award, expressed her gratitude in her speech. “I want to thank God because without prayer and faith, I would have lost my mind a long time ago,” the rapper said. “We all know this because we know how crazy this industry can get, but this room is safe tonight. Thank you all for letting us be vulnerable.
In her opening remarks, Femme it Forward founder Heather Lowery seemed to acknowledge the emotional impact of the 2024 US presidential election results, especially among supporters of Vice President Kamala Harris.
“To the women and girls out there who are overqualified and undervalued, if you ever feel like this at any point in your journey, can you live with that?” Lowery said, according to THR. “Tonight we want to hold space for you, to remind you that we see you, we honor you, and you are enough. You are the reason we are here tonight. I know we have all been overwhelmed with emotions over the past few days. Overwhelmed. I hope you treat your grief like your garden. Give it space, give it time, and let it bloom.
Other noteworthy honors at Friday night included the My Sister’s Keeper Award, presented to siblings Chloe and Halle Bailey; the Doechii Vision Award; GloRilla receiving the Big Femme Energy honor; and the Muse Award to Jill Scott.
