The song-and-dance blockbuster, which Warner Bros. declined to market as a musical but will send Phoenix and Gaga into the musical or comedy film category at the upcoming Golden Globes, was a hit both commercially and when it was released last month. Reviews failed.
The film grossed just under $38 million domestically in its first weekend, but fell 81% in its second weekend. Its global box office total was nearly $205 million, but more than $145 million came from overseas.
Clown: Pas de deux The film has a 32% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes and received a D CinemaScore from audiences.
Continuing to talk about the sequel, Dillon said the actors had a feeling while making it that they were making a bad movie.
“It had no plot. We would be sitting there, me and everyone else wearing these security suits because we worked at Arkham Asylum, and I would turn to one of these and we would hear this crap, and I would go, ‘This What the fuck? ’ They’d say, ‘This is going to explode, man.’ I said, ‘This is the worst thing that’s ever happened to me…’ We were talking about it at lunch, and we’d say, ‘What’s the plot? “Is there a plot?” I don’t know, I think he fell in love with her in prison? …I can’t even stand the hatred. That’s how scary it is,” he told Rogan.
Last month, Quentin Tarantino praised Clown: Pas de deux Appear in Bret Easton Ellis podcast.
“I really, really liked it, really. A lot. Like it a lot, and I went to see it hoping to be impressed by the filmmaking. But I thought it would be an intellectual exercise at arm’s length, and ultimately I didn’t Think it will work like a movie, but I will appreciate it for what it is,” the director said. “I’m just nihilistic to the point of enjoying a movie that doesn’t quite feel like a movie. In a way, it’s like a giant mess. I don’t think it’s an intellectual exercise. I really get caught up in it. I really like these musical sequences and I’m really stuck on them. I think the more mediocre the songs are, the better.
