With 13 No. 1 hits on the Billboard Hot 100, 13 No. 1 albums on the Billboard 200, and 39 Billboard Music Awards, who ranks fourth on the list of the greatest pop singers of the 21st century? Drake! The Canadian star first rose to fame playing Jimmy Brooks in Degrassi: The Next Generation. Drake’s music career skyrocketed after he caught the attention of Lil Wayne, who signed him to his own label, Young Money Records. In 2009, Drake debuted on the Billboard charts with the single “Best I Ever Had.” As music streaming platforms like Spotify began to gain popularity, so did Drake. He became a leader in hip-hop in the 2010s, combining his rap verses with more personal R&B-style vocals, as he did frequently with Rihanna during this time. Not only did his album Take Care win him his first Grammy Award in 2013, it continues to demonstrate his influence in pop culture. Drake went on to produce No. 1 albums such as “Nothing Was the Same” and “If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late.” He also began to cooperate with another frequent collaborator “Future” to carry out projects such as “What a Time to Be Alive”. 2016 was a big year for Drake, with his album Views debuting at No. 1 and his longest streak of 13 consecutive weeks at No. 1. The album covers some of the biggest hits of the decade, such as “Hotline Bling.” Another collaboration with Riri was “Too Good”, and it was also his first time as a vocalist to reach No. 1 on the Hot 100 chart with “One Dance”.
