Anyway, that’s the hope for their new Christmas movie, red number oneAfter a tough fall, it opens in North America this weekend. Tracking suggests the action-adventure film will earn between $30 million and $35 million in its domestic debut at Amazon-MGM Studios before having a long run through the year-end holiday season (fingers crossed).
However, considering the film cost a whopping $250 million to make, there will be a lot of discussion about its box office performance. Big traditional studios in the same situation would come under intense scrutiny if a movie’s price tag reached those numbers, but Amazon insists its business model is entirely different and driven by subscribers, not just box office. It also hopes to launch a new film series.
Exhibitors are of course excited to be showing the first official Christmas movie since before the pandemic Grinch Released in 2018, not to mention a film with such high-profile talent.
Rated PG-13, the original story tells the story of Santa Claus, codenamed “Red One,” who is kidnapped and the head of North Pole security (played by Johnson) must work with the world’s most notorious bounty hunter (played by Evans) .

The studio also conducted some local promotions to attract multicultural audiences. Amazon partnered with It’s Boba Time, a popular AAPI-owned boba company, for two weeks at all of its 88 locations to create a custom red number one– A themed drink called “Missing Santa Claus”. The studio partners with five local black-owned coffee shops and bakeries to host it for free red number one Offer drink giveaways during opening week to promote the movie. Locations include the Hilltop in Los Angeles and the Sip and Savor in Chicago. There is also activity at 13 stores in the Los Angeles area and a popular retailer in the Latin community of Curacao.
Warner Bros. Pictures is releasing the production of “Seven Bucks” worldwide, which debuted a week early and grossed $28 million at the box office.
Amazon gives the green light red number one before it acquired MGM. Industry insiders say the film’s success will depend on the global box office and how it performs on Prime this holiday season and in the coming years. In other words, the goal is to make it a perennial holiday favorite.
