I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: High Potential continues to up the ante with every episode. One of Us is a non-stop roller coaster ride filled with thrills and near-kills.
The writers of this series are talented sadists, and they start the episode on such a sweet note. Kids were left out of The Hangover but brought back in a big way.
The central theme of High Potential is family. This has been the driving force behind Morgan and nearly every case the police have tackled since Miss Smarty Pants was formed.
It certainly suggests that the midseason finale will put the things that matter most to Morgan at risk. And she herself is on the road to becoming a mother, and so are her kidnappers.
High potentials love to dump messages at Morgan speed
To be honest, the case in High Potential Season 1 Episode 7 was a mixed bag. On the one hand, most people know that the justice system is not infallible.
In the meantime, there has to be a better way than taking the precinct hostage. Also, what on earth was Brooke thinking when she was working with Jeremy?
In terms of staying cool, Jeremy’s is as cold as the sidewalks in south Louisiana in the middle of summer. The man collapsed almost instantly.
There are so many moving parts to this case that it’s understandable if someone gets lost in all the information dumped here. High potentials like to move at the speed of Morgan’s (Caitlin Olson) mind.
Basically, a military member known for going the extra mile to help former recruits was murdered by one of them. The wrong man is convicted and his friends try to save him.
Again, this is a difficult case to choose a side on. Remember when Morgan and Karadek tackled the tap dance mechanics case in High Potential Season 1 Episode 2? Those were the good old days.
However, to be fair, no one struggled more in this episode than Morgan.
Miss Morgan is full of “Mama Bear” energy
Morgan is under constant pressure over the incident, which has her daughter trapped in the precinct. However, we all know Morgan will save the day. Ava was never really in danger.
However, do you know who might still be at risk? Brooke. If you’re like this TV fanatic, you probably thought Morgan was going to end up getting Brooke out of the ambulance.
Morgan was full of “Mama Bear” energy when she told Brooke that she had put Morgan’s daughter in danger and that Brooke should be happy that Morgan wouldn’t be on the jury for her trial.
Maybe I’m watching too much of Matlock, but my first thought was, “Morgan will never be picked by a jury consultant.”
Still, Morgan went a long way in making her point. The best part is she saved the day without getting shot.
Sadly, that’s not the case for her potential new suitor, J.D. Pardo (Mayans MC) Tom, the hot new janitor. He also didn’t appear on my “Bullet Catcher” bingo card.
Morgan and Tom are a love story of cheese dust and gunshot wounds
If you’ve read the spoilers for High Potential Season 1 Episode 7, you know I put my money on the “heroic sacrifice” of Oz or Daphne. I even guessed it might be Melon, and was almost right.
However, if Melon saved the day, we would never hear the end of it. Instead, he got a potential new boo from Morgan in the leg. Did I hear that right? He might have cut an artery?
We call this “The Purge” because Melon’s (Garrett Dillahunt) intentions were noble but the results were disastrous. I know Tom’s scream after being shot was for dramatic effect, but it was still creepy.
It might be a minute before Morgan and Tom go on their first date. However, with the sparks flying between the two, I’m sure they won’t have trouble continuing where they left off.
Morgan seems to be good at staying calm, cool and collected. The same cannot be said for her high-drinking companions.
Without Morgan and Karadek’s “will they? won’t they”, high-potential talent can focus on real story elements rather than clichés
You can’t tell me you didn’t notice how manic Karadek (Daniel Sunjata) was in High Potential Season 1 Episode 7.
Sure, he tried to keep it cool while talking to Ava and Morgan about their “Yes Day,” but you knew that guy was excited to see them.
But once the gun went off, Karadek went into full protection mode. This is reminiscent of Morgan’s crazy nature in High Potential Season 1 Episode 4.
Many of you have noticed how complementary Morgan and Karadek are, and I have to agree. Karadek’s analytical approach complements Morgan’s open-mindedness and creative perspective.
Most importantly, it’s clear these two have mutual respect and admiration for each other. The best part? There is no cliche romance between two heterosexual couples.
It’s so refreshing to see the dynamic between the male and female characters. Without the “will they, won’t they,” high potentials can focus on the more exciting aspects of the story.
Just like the case of Morgan’s missing ex Roman. What’s going on? The last time we saw Lieutenant Mellon, he was helping Captain Selina search for clues in Roman’s case in High Potential Season 1, Episode 3.
From that point on, there was radio silence. No one mentioned Roman. The midseason finale would have been the perfect time to resolve the mystery of the case.
Oh well. High Potential may be back in action when the series returns in January. I know it’s a bit of a wait, but we have already aired episodes to enjoy again.
So fire up Hulu and relive the incredible seven-episode journey Morgan and Karadek have given viewers so far.
Thankfully, we don’t have to wait too long in January, as the next episode will air after the first of the month. In a way, you can think of a high-potential return as a late Christmas gift.
As long as we keep telling ourselves, time will fly by, right? Yeah, I don’t think so either. We’ll just have to wait for ABC to come up with more great episodes of High Potential.
What are your thoughts on Morgan and the new janitor?
How would you describe Morgan and Karadek’s relationship?
