Albums by Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds, Amyl and The Sniffer, Dirty Three and Hiatus Kaiyote were announced as finalists at the 20th annual Australian Music Awards on Thursday 14 November.
The 2024 shortlist includes nine albums selected from a pool of 600 albums from 46 nominated albums released by Australian musicians in the past year.
This year’s list features veteran performers such as Nick Cave and Bad Seeds with their 18th albums wild god. Cave has been nominated four times in the award’s twenty-year history, including in 2016 Skeleton tree2019 ghostand his 2021 collaboration with Warren Ellis, massacre.
Punk band Amyl and The Sniffer shortlisted again with third album cartoon dark giving them their third nomination to date. Meanwhile, Melbourne neo-soul quartet Hiatus Kaiyote was nominated love heart cheat codestheir second nomination following 2021 in a heroic mood.

Two of the shortlisted albums on this year’s list will also compete for the ARIA Awards later this month, including Dobby Records and Audrey Powne’s Recordings, which are up for Best World Music Album. from firewhich is in the running for best jazz album.
Led by founder and awards director Scott Murphy, previous AMP winners include Sampa the Great (twice), Avalanches, Courtney Barnett, the late Gurrumul, King Stingray and recent champions RVG.

The winning album will be announced at an event at APRA AMCOS on Wednesday 4 December.
