OMG, there were enough tears in Matlock Season 1 Episode 6 to fill a pool of water. We gasped, laughed, cried, but most importantly, had a great time during another incredible episode.
From learning about Olympia and Julian’s past to seeing Marty first come up with the idea of taking down Jacobson Moore, a lot is revealed in the most clever way possible.
Having said that, I have to make a confession here now. If you read previous reviews of Matlock, I thought the company was called Jacobs & Moore.
I only became aware of the actual names in the opening scene when Marty looked at the building catalog.
That’s why there are subtitles. I can’t be the only one who thinks this is Jacobs & Moore.
When Olympia cries during the trial, you know it’s bad
Speaking of the company, they did find some truly heartbreaking cases to deal with. There is nothing sadder than two parents seeking justice for the loss of a child.
Now, where have I heard this described before? While Marty and the moms’ situations are similar, there are clear differences between Marty’s case and the one they try in this episode.
The first is the issue of contaminated formula. If you’re like this TV fanatic, you’ve lost your way trying to explain how formula is actually contaminated.
It was hard to focus on that lovable guy, Teddy, who was in tears in the stands as he realized that the cast he was wearing while holding a pipe to save his life had led to contaminated formula and ultimately… die.
Just writing this makes me want to cry. Still, I don’t know exactly how Teddy’s plaster tainted the formula, but I don’t work in a factory.
But if you know how to do it, please leave it in the comments. As for Teddy, it was so painful to watch the tears well up in his eyes when he realized this. Even Olympia (Skye P. Marshall) cried.
Matlock is playing matchmaker with his character in the most organic and fun way
Olympia’s situation is almost as bad as Marty’s in this episode. Watching her struggle when first working on this case shows that she decided to start becoming a lawyer for the right reasons.
It also reveals Julian and Olympia’s breaking point. I tip my hat to Matlock for deftly addressing the challenges an interracial couple might face.
Everything Olympia says about her kids’ behavior on the playground is 100 percent true.
Olympia and her children must face a social microscope that Julian never imagined. However, the Julian of the past is no longer the same as he is now.
Since episode 3 of Matlock Season 1, Julian has been slowly making his way to Olympia with sweet gestures and constant support.
Well, things finally came to a head. Olympia and Julian get back together. Hopefully Elijah won’t be too upset about this when he returns from wherever the writer sent him.
Then again, love seems to be in the air, so he might have found someone who looks a lot like everyone’s favorite nervous paralegal.
A lawyer without a prenuptial agreement is like a smoking doctor
It’s like Matlock teases the audience with Sarah’s possible romance, only to brush it aside. We need more Sarah and Kira, dammit.
In Matlock Season 1, Episode 5, we meet the adorable Kira, whose flirtation with Sarah is as subtle as a shotgun — it’s downright hysterical. Sarah is a clumsy, lovesick child.
Even though Sarah was acting strange, her email idea wasn’t a bad one. A well-crafted letter can be attractive. Sarah (Leah Lewis) may have a point when it comes to relationships.
For example, there is nothing wrong with her telling Billy that he should sign a prenuptial agreement. A lawyer without a prenuptial agreement is like a smoking doctor. They should know better, right?
Then again, Billy (David Del Rio) has a big heart. I hate to say it, but in the real world, what gets a lawyer with a big heart is just a lot of debt.
There’s a reason Olympia refers to Jacobson Moore as “the Den of Serpents” in Matlock Season 1 Episode 4. ?
The stars finally align to allow Madeleine Matlock into the belly of the beast
It’s no wonder that Marty reaches her breaking point in “Sixteen Steps.” Oh, and the episode title is even more painful once you know what it’s about.
Thankfully, Marty puts aside his feelings to help the mothers in the case seek justice for their son, Dante. But honestly, she was doing it for herself as much as they were doing it.
Did you notice the exchange between Marty and one of the moms, Vanessa, after they won the case? Marty congratulated Vanessa and said, “You got justice for your kids.”
The look of defeat was not missed on Vanessa’s face. The case was won, but her son was still missing and she had to relive all the painful memories.
In the end, is it really worth it? Does it bring mothers the peace they deserve? Marty had this written on his face. Maybe her mission will only ruin her life.
Lord knows Edwin has a point. I mean, Marty (Kathy Bates) is so stressed that she has a panic attack, thinking it’s a heart attack.
Meeting Stanley didn’t help Madeline. The unexpected encounters with those “senior sweethearts” just put a knife in Marty’s heart. No wonder Edwin wants her to go back to Madeleine Kingston.
By the way, when people talk about how they “grow old with someone,” they’re talking about something Edwin and Madeleine had. These two are goals.
Still, as sweet and loving as Edwin is, we’re just glad the universe, or whoever’s behind the show, has other plans for Madeleine Matlock.
In a quick and effective scene, Olympia and Julian (Jason Ritter) reveal their newfound romance while delivering the news that Marty will be transferred to the pharmaceutical company.
Talk about the stars aligning. Marty went from nowhere near beating Jacobson Moore to where she needed to be.
You can always count on Matlock to reward audiences with exciting new developments. We go from fingerprints to Marty in the belly of the beast.
Now, we have some time to think about all these new changes while we await the return of Matlock on CBS. The show is currently on hiatus but will return with more episodes in early December.
In the meantime, relive the hilarious and thrilling misadventures of Miss Madeleine Matlock (aka Lady Madeleine Kingston) with the first six episodes of Matlock Season 1, streaming on Paramount+.
How do you think Elijah will feel when he learns about Olympias and Julian?
What do you think Edwin will say when Madeleine tells him that the plan is still going on?
