There are only two episodes left in the first season of Small Town Murders.
The final two episodes serve as the season finale, and spoilers for Small Town Season 1 Episode 7 reveal that a high-stakes murder is on the way.
This is the second episode without source material, but the last episode came from one of LR Wright’s novels, so they may be related.
Team discovers body in forest
Finding a dead woman in the forest is a creepy and scary thing. To make matters worse, there were flowers surrounding her.
This shows that someone cared enough to restore the body and pose the victim. While the setting initially reminded me of a crazy fairy tale, it was extremely disgusting and violent.
The weekly promos all but suggested that the victims were hung from trees and attacked. That heart-wrenching scream haunts me.
It also showed the victim had been assaulted so severely that her cheek was cracked and her bones broken.
The killer is menacing and Carl seems convinced he will kill more women.
This serial killer storyline seems oddly familiar
There’s something about this serial killer storyline that seems familiar. Granted, I’ve watched way too much of the procedural, but it felt oddly similar to Will Trent’s serial killer storyline in the season 2 finale.
The difference is that these are female victims who are obsessed with male abusers.
Disturbingly, the bodies were violently dismembered with hammers or meat cleavers.
Could this be considered a hint? I wonder if he is a butcher. He knew how to carve animals. The next step is easily “people”.
As the bodies pile up, Carl becomes convinced that they are looking for a serial killer and turns to others for help.
Carl asks Cassandra for help
We have a special treat for you this week. Fox provided TV Fanatic with an exclusive clip teasing Carl asking Cassandra to help solve multiple murders.
We don’t want to spoil too much, but we’re relieved that he feels like he can still get help after the breakup, and she teases him about needing artist recommendations, which is his specialty.
Police often use sketch artists to help identify suspects, so Carr further ensures they have the best possible tools to catch serial killers.
Cassandra recommended high school art teacher Tommy Cummins. Audiences will recognize actor Noah Reid from “Schitt’s Creek.”
Since the two of them are talking harmoniously, does that mean there is still hope for them?
Check out the exclusive clip and weigh in on your thoughts.
Combining art and detective skills to solve crimes
Previously, Carl mentioned that you can tell a lot through a person’s eyes. He learned this from his mother, who used to paint portraits.
I suspect this is why he wanted to hire a portrait painter. He wanted someone to draw various suspects.
The official trailer for Small Town Murders shows Carl drawing a portrait and looking through different eyes to find the suspect.
Combined with Corporal Yan’s investigative skills, the suspects can be narrowed down. We saw in Small Town Season 1 Episode 6 how quickly she can see through the mind games.
Edwina is an expert at solving the real suspects, and we can’t wait to see her continue to shine.
This murder had the greatest impact on Corporal Yan
Most murders rattle the police force, but the search for dismembered women has put a damper on policewomen.
Corporal Yan has seen her murders, but this time it’s pure evil. They need to know why he attacked the women or whether the victims knew each other.
Judging by the level of violence, it looked like a killing of passion.
It also suggests that the killer was working with a partner or someone else to discover the body as it was carefully disposed of.
Since this is a two-part finale, the team may still put the pieces together by the end of the episode.
Why is Roger Galbraith returning?
According to the cast list, Roger Galbraith (Lucas Bryant) will return for the two-episode season finale. Am I the only one hoping we’d see the last of him in Small Town Season 1 Episode 3?
While we don’t have any spoilers as to why Roger is back, he’s an expert on small town gossip and likely heard that Cassandra and Carl had broken up.
I suspect he’s back for another match against Cassandra. Hopefully she’s smart enough to realize he’s still playing games and it’s not for her.
I would rather Cassandra stay single while thinking about what she needs before reuniting with Carl.
Hopefully Roger had nothing to do with the murders. Even though he was a nasty gossip, I didn’t see him as a murderer.
Over to you, TV fanatics. What can you expect from Small Town Season 1 Episode 7?
Are you interested in multiple murders? Are you relieved that Carl and Cassandra are still talking?
