Late rapper Mac Miller’s long-awaited album looks set to be released soon, according to a new trailer.
The trailer aired at Tyler’s Creator’s Camp Flog Gnaw Music Festival in Los Angeles over the weekend, and in front of the set of The Alchemist & Friends on Saturday (November 16).
The two-and-a-half-minute trailer shows off a series of animations and songs, with the final message simply reading “Soon.” The image accompanying the message is a painting of Miller created by artist Alim Smith. Just weeks before Miller’s death in 2018, Smith posted a photo of a similar style, to which the late artist commented, writing “need this.”
The project is Miller’s long-lost album Balloonismwhich was recorded more than a decade ago and is reportedly planned to be released ahead of his 2014 mixtape, face.
While there is some debate as to whether the recorded songs were compiled and sequenced for anticipated release, or whether the project actively moved through its development stages, many songs related to the project have been leaked over the years.
Two of the songs – including the SZA-themed “The Song That Changed Everything” and “5 Dollar Pony Rides” – were accompanied by trailers when they aired on Saturday.
Miller passed away in September 2018 at the age of 26, leaving behind a legacy that included six studio albums, 12 mixtapes, numerous singles and even guest songs with other artists.
