Spike Lee will serve as chairman of the main competition jury of the 4th Red Sea International Film Festival (RSIFF) in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
This film festival will be held from December 5th to 14th, and the latest main competition lineup will have 16 films competing. Titles include Reema Kagti’s malegaon super boywhich had its world premiere at the Toronto Film Festival, Kudwin Ayoub’s moonwhich premiered at the Locarno Film Festival and won the Special Jury Prize.
“I was lucky enough to experience first-hand the incredible filmmaking, atmosphere and creativity at the 2022 Red Sea International Film Festival, and it’s an honor to return this year as jury president,” said Lee. “As well as creating a melting pot where cultures come together to celebrate our important art form, it is also vital to continue to provide a platform for young and emerging filmmakers who are finding their voices in the industry and it’s great to see talent from around the world This year’s line-up includes first-time directors from across the Arab region, Asia and Africa.
Jomana Al Rashid, chairman of the Red Sea Film Foundation, praised Lee. “Spike was a pioneering director whose iconic work had a lasting impact on film as a medium and on culture as a whole,” she said. “His energy, sensitivity and true championing of creativity and new voices make him the ideal person to lead this year’s jury.”
