Performance pieces come together Voltron.
Sterling K. Brown, Rita Ora and John King star in this live-action adaptation of Rawson Marshall Thurber’s mecha anime for Amazon-MGM Studios.
The trio will star alongside Henry Cavill and relative newcomer Daniel Queen-Troy in the ensemble drama, which will open in Australia in December.
Voltron Adapted from a Japanese science fiction series Beast King GoLion and Kikou Kantai Dairugger XV. World Events edited and syndicated the series and titled it Voltron: Guardian of the Universerunning in the mid-1980s. The story revolves around five young pilots from a battalion called the Robot Lions, vehicles that combine to form a giant robot called Voltron.
While plot details for the feature have yet to be revealed, Thurber shared a video message with Voltron fans during October’s VoltCon in Indianapolis, in which he said, “I want to make sure we stay true to Voltron. In this film, we introduce a whole new generation of pilots as we reimagine Voltron for a live-action world, but we stay true to the iconic elements that you love and that I love. . Thurber co-wrote the screenplay with Alan Shanman.
Producers include Todd Lieberman of Hidden Pictures, Bob Koplar of World Events Productions, Thurber and David Hoberman of Hobie Films.
Brown was nominated for an Oscar for starring opposite Jeffrey Wright American novelAmazon MGM’s critically acclaimed comedy directed by Cord Jefferson. Brown will star in Hulu series and serve as executive producer Heavencreated by Dan Fogelman, is expected to begin production on Elegance Bratton’s play hard With Mark Wahlberg. The busy actor recently completed production on a Hulu limited series washington black and starring opposite Jennifer Lopez in Netflix’s sci-fi film atlas.
