HollyShorts, one of the world’s most prestigious short film festivals, is coming to London.
HollyShorts will host its first London edition as part of the Los Angeles festival’s 20th anniversary, hollywood reporter It has been revealed that HollyShorts honorary awards will be awarded to a number of Oscar-winning and Oscar-nominated British and Irish short film makers.
HollyShorts honorable mention winners include Tom Berkeley and Ross White, who won 2023 Oscars for short films Irish farewell; Chris Overton (Chris Overton, 2018 with ” silent child;Misan Harriman, nominated for an Academy Award this year for this film after; and 2016 nominee Jamie Donoughue friend.
The event will also honor actor James Martin with a special Trailblazer Award, its key role Irish farewell making him the first star with Down syndrome to win an Academy Award. Earlier this year, Martin was named to the King’s New Year Honors List for his services to drama and was awarded an MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire).
Last year, the HollyShorts Film Festival won its fourth Oscar-qualifying documentary short film award. The festival has also been recognized by BAFTA for the first time, meaning films selected for HollyShorts will be eligible to be submitted for BAFTA Awards. Several HollyShorts winners went on to win the top Academy Award short film category, including Riz Ahmed’s long farewell and Guy Nattiff’s skin.
These Winners and Trailblazers Awards will be presented in person at the HollyShorts London opening night reception on 6 December.
