[The following story includes major spoilers for Wicked.]

evil Fans don’t have to wait also Longing to return to the wonderful land of Oz.

The second film in Jon M. Chu’s two-part screen adaptation of the beloved Broadway musical will be released on November 21, 2025, almost exactly one year later evil was released. evil: part two will see The Witches of Oz, Ariana Grande’s Galinda (aka Glinda the Good Witch) and Cynthia Erivo’s Elphaba (aka the Wicked Witch of the West) continuing The story begins in the first movie.

evilThe film was released on November 22 and became the highest-grossing opening of a musical adaptation, with an estimated domestic box office of $114 million. (Despite unconfirmed rumors online, Grande and Erivo were paid equally for their stunning roles.) The films are based on the 2003 musical of the same name, which was originally based on Grey’s Based on Gory Maguire’s best-selling novel.

evil The untold story of the Witches of Oz. Winnie Holzman, who wrote the stage play, wrote the script for Chu’s film along with Dana Fox. Academy Award-winning composer and lyricist Stephen Schwartz brings this musical to the screen. Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth originated the Broadway roles of Elphaba and Glinda (who starred in “One Brief Day” a surprise cameo in the sequence).

evil Erivo concluded the stage show’s most famous musical, “Defying Gravity,” with a stunning performance. Since “Defying Gravity” is the end of the first act of a Broadway show, evil The ending helped Jude realize his vision of splitting the first and second acts into two films.

Chu family evil True to the stage musical, almost no changes were made to the overall plot of the story. While there’s no official confirmation yet on how closely the second film’s storyline will align with the show’s second act, Jeff Goldblum, who plays the Witcher, recently said in an interview that the second film will include “some new characters.” ”. Song written by Schwartz”.

Chu Yu hollywood reporter Sharing insights into his vision for the film ahead of its release.

“We knew we didn’t want to take the movie that far away from the TV show, because it’s not my kind of TV show,” he said of the filmmaking process. “We started talking about, how many numbers can you cut to get it? In order to put this story in, you have to cut a huge amount of numbers, which is unreasonable. You want all the songs, so you cut out the dances. Which ones? Tell me which ones we’ll do. We obviously have to make a choice. Are we making a three-and-a-half-hour movie and do we do it one at a time? We were doing it one piece at a time, and then we had to make sure the movie was emotionally satisfying so we didn’t feel like we were stopped in the middle of the story… We all agreed we were going to carve it up.

He continued: “We found that room was necessary. Because if you’re going to, I don’t know, maybe end up with ‘Defying Gravity,’ then you have Elphaba and this needs to be the most pivotal moment in her life. So you need to set up Elphaba more than the show. You need to see what her childhood was like. …How do you build that friendship? In the medium of film, you talk shit about things so quickly, you have to have the time and space to believe in the relationship. Galinda’s narrator holds it all together and sets the stage for the second film. So there’s just too much of all of those things, and I think we found a beautiful balance in that.

Chu worked with the team on both films. “We shot two films over 160 days, but they were stopped 10 days before completion. [because of the strike] Our days of ‘anti-gravity’ and flight,” he told THR.

The team completed a 10-day production at the beginning of this year. Since the two films were filmed together, the cast of both films remains the same.

evilCompared to the bright poppy moments of the first act, the second act takes a darker turn. In both the stage musical and the film, “Defying Gravity” is the moment when Elphaba “transforms” into the Wicked Witch of the West. The Wizard of Oz Fans know, and for context, that the wizard and her mentor Mrs. Morrible (played separately in the film by Michelle Yeoh) labeled her “evil” after she refused to help their plot to strip the animals of Oz of their rights. Label. Elphaba and Glinda become friends against all odds in the first act and the movie, but they go their separate ways as Elphaba chooses to rebel against the wizard and Glinda stays.

The story in the stage musical continues like this – New movie viewers beware of spoilers!

The second act takes place parallel to the events of the original The Wizard of Oz. The story begins with Glinda (now officially known as Glinda the Good) and Fierro (played by Jonathan Bailey, now Captain of the Wizarding Guard), speaking to the public in Oz as officials of the Wizarding World. Morrible gave a completely untrue account of the ending of the play’s first act and announced that Fierro and Glinda were engaged to appease the crowd who were worried about the evil witch. Fierro still cares about Elphaba, but leaves due to the horrible comments from the crowd.

Elphaba visits her sister Nessarose, played by Marissa Bode in the film, who has become the governor of Munchkinland. Nessa deprived the Munchkins of their right to have Boq, played by Ethan Slater in the movie, stay with her. Elphaba enchanted her mother’s jeweled shoes, allowing Nessa to walk, but Berk still rejected her. Nessa blames Elphaba for the wrong spell, causing Berk to turn into the Tin Man.

The wizard again offers Elphaba the chance to join his cause, but she rejects him, and Fiyero helps her escape from the wizard, leaving Glinda behind. The two finally admitted their love for each other. Morrible and the wizard devised a plan to put Nessaros in danger to get Elphaba’s attention. This caused Morrible’s tornado in The Wizard of Oz, which brought Dorothy to Oz and killed Nessaros, aka the Wicked Witch of the East.

Glinda and Elphaba reunite and argue over Glinda giving Nessa’s shoes to Dorothy, a girl who arrived in Oz. Eventually, the two reconciled after Glinda warned Elphaba of her plan to kill her with a powerful musical song, “Forever.” Elphaba appears to be melted by a bucket of water, and her ending is the one in The Wizard of Oz. Glinda tells the wizard that Elphaba is his daughter, drives him out of Oz, and arrests Morrible for plotting to kill Nessaros. Fiyero, who was transformed into Scarecrow after trying to help Elphaba earlier in the show, returned to the melting scene, freed Elphaba from the trap door, and the two escaped together.

Dorothy and her crew can briefly appear in evilThe first part of the movie, seen only from behind and talking to the wizard in the trailer. The characters in “The Wizard of Oz” are shown from behind or in silhouette, never explicitly seen in the stage musical.

lead to The Evil Man (Part 2) Arriving at the theater on November 21, 2025, THR We’ll update this article as more progress is made on the second film.
